That was so so low. I just read "katia her na 5 bob" and got tired(pissed off). Kenyan women are worth alot more, even more than the 20 billion they make in profits, yet you reduce them to 5bob.

And not all are lesbians to katia other women.

Surely! I now agree with a writer in the Standard that advertising creativity in Kenya is dead. (I wish I had the link to the article).

I won't call for anyone's resignation but they can do better with all those billions in profits.

The first thing I asked my colleague in the office when I received this message was if Safaricom maintains any demographic data on its clients. We guessed that maybe they do and they have profiled their customers somehow to know who would be tickled by such a message. Clearly we were wrong. They really should know better next time. Shame on them!

That being said, I honestly see no problem with the 5 bob part. What irks me is to think that exactly the same intimately suggestive message that was sent to teenagers, is the same one that was sent to their parents, their grandparents, their teachers, their pastors... Aii? That was dumb.

@seppuku, scom have all the demographics they require. Remember that 14M out of their subscribers are mpesa users, so they have a copy of all their IDs. They know age, sex, tribe so with a little effort they can send SMS's by these structures, and ensure that @254.co.ke's old man is kept out of the loop.
