In Meru and Embu they are the matatus, and for quick miraa transport, albeit they have become very attractive to car thieves

I heard about this Probox thing last week when my sister wrote to tell me that her husband had purchased one. I had not heard or seen one before (am out of the country) So i asked a friend whether he knew of a car called probox and he said NO and then he wondered whether its a 'third world kind of car' and I said I am not sure. After reading the newspaper article on it and all these wazua posts, I understand what a probox is. I am happy coz my little sisters business will start booming with this probox thing

For its versatility, one would only belittle the Probox out of sheer ignorance or frenzy mob mentality. Kenyans have "peculiar habits" Someone would go to great lengths to buy a Merc to look "unique" but still stay in Umoja.

The Probox(es) currently ruling Kenyan roads have been in use in Japan for 8 years and the japs have been using them without a fuss.

OK they may no look particularly pleasing to the eye, but from a functional point of view nothing beats them.

If they can chew the road from Meru to Eastleigh in two hours when full of Miraa (khat), even the much dreaded Hilux is taking a notice.

Thanks GG. I have talked to some of the guys who own them. They swear it is the best car that meet their needs. My brother has one and this is what he says.

It surely exceeded my expectations. It's acceleration beats even cars above it. It's stability on the road even when carrying heavy loads is amazing and when it comes to fuel savings, I do not need another car.

I was scouting for land in Kajiado/Bisil areas and was suprised by the number of Probox. Out of 5 vehicles, 4.5 were probox. This presented a business opportunity and I am in love with probox since then.

Totally true...instead of bashing your german car in the kajiado interior roads...you park in Kajiado town and hire a probox to do some serious off road driving. my respect for proboxes came after this..

Mbugua the brain surgeon believes that proboxes, tuktuks and motorbikes are the cause of jams in Nairobi. Please KQ as part of your CSR give the man a ticket to Bangkok, Mumbai or Delhi?
