Freezing weather has killed dozens of people in central and eastern Europe over the past few days and temperatures are set to drop even further, authorities warned yesterday.
In Poland, police said 10 died over the weekend as temperatures plunged to -27 degrees Celsius, raising the death toll from exposure to 46 since the start of the winter, which had been unusually mild up till now.
Ukraine’s health ministry said 18 people have died of hypothermia in the last four days.

We have brains! We are just too critical about ourselves. People solve problems that are there. We did not have to
1) Build kingdoms, thus fuel the arms race that made Europe what it is. We had too many tribes - imagine that within our borders we have 42 distinct groups while on then Island of Great Britain they have 4.
2) we did not need to adapt to the weather, the Khoisan people were the first people who headed south from long before the rest of humanity made their way to where they are now. they adapted to the conditions there.
3) we had our own brand of metal work and agriculture way before the mzungu came.

We have adapted so fast to the new "ideas" brought from the west and east. Anyone who has travelled to Asia can tell you how conservative those guys are. We learn and implement - perhaps the reason we were used as slaves in America and not the Native Americans themselves.

@Masukuma. Yenyewe if you consider the period it has taken us to be the way we are (even with our problems) there is some reason to feel good. But there is still a lot to be done and I hope we will rise up to the occasion.
