KPLC A CON?
I received this message in my cellphone today, and if you are a prepaid customer you will likely get

DEAR CUSTOMER,PLEASE NOTE THAT THE 30 UNITS THAT THE PREPAID METER WAS INSTALLED WITH WILL BE RECOVERED FROM TODAY"

First we didn't ask for those units during installation, looks like it was an orchestrated scheme to lure you to accept a prepaid meter

Received the same. To the best of my recallation, this was deducted when I loaded the first time. Truely a con? Is their financial year coming to an end and they have not hit their numbers?

Elections are truly here. Someone has to fund the helicopters. BTW, got the same, my pre-paid meter was installed over three years ago.

electricity costs have gone up since then and the value of 30 units is much more now, they should deduct in phases and at the initial cost...nkt waizi

Problems can get out of proportion, and not only in the wee small hours. Don't let the problems eclipse the Master. Let the Master eclipse the problems.

After installing that meter, they encouraged me to pay a high amount initially. The next day I paid Ksh 1,000 which they distributed into their various taxes leaving me with a meager 0.7 units.
When I launched a complaint, they said that I had overstayed charging the account but after explaining that this was a new account they agreed to sort it out with the next payment which they still encouraged me to pay high amount. I paid another Ksh 1,000 and got 56 Units and was referred to a certain office to get approval for the refund –to get additional units.
To date - 3 months down the line am still waiting for the units.

What I don’t understand is;
• Does this new system have a mechanism of detecting existing and newly installed accounts and account usage/balances etc
• Isn’t the system automated to allocate the units, taxes and etc? Seem the officers have the discretion of allocation esp. with new accounts.

NKT, I rather the old system.

Mad People these are: who asked them for the 30 units, NKT!!!

"Please note that the recovery of the advanced 30 units will be done gradually with 20% of every subsequent prepaid purchase going to it."

This stinks to high heaven. I suspect people will be ripped off and some smart cookie will pocket a stash of cash. As a consumer, you can't tell what goes where, you might never know when you are actually done paying for the 30. It is hard enough to tell as of now without this new charge. A 250/- top up never gets me the same units!!!

Reminds me of my friend who enticed a ka chick into a relationship with a Nokia 3310 then decided to take it back after enjoying the goods...

Maybe this is a deliberate confusion to create an opportunity…

Will they refund the deposit on the old meters?
Remember - whenever bills were not settled on time, penalties for reconnection were amounts added to the deposit.

Let’s hope it doesn’t deteriorate into situation where customer records cannot be traced as witnessed below.

I'm assuming you are in Nrb. Go to E-Hse and collect a form for refund of deposit. Fill it, leave it there with a copy of your ID and the cheque will eventually come through the mail, less the last bill before conversion.

Flip the coin. Atleast they told us, right? Atleast they did not go ahead and recover the value of the 30 units without our knowledge, right? Being prepaid, it would have been easy to just deduct without telling the masses, what with the way units change with different amounts. Yet again, when they installed the prepaid meters, they never said they were free units. They said the prepaid meters came with 30units so that you dont get disconnected when they removed the old meters. So, I see no wrong in what they have done. 30 units was power spent, it was a cost. They are just recovering it.
