The rate of inflation has
reduced for the first time this year, raising hopes that the rising cost of living will not spill into next year.
Official data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics show that the rate of inflation in December slowed down to 18.93 per cent from 19.72 per cent reported in November, mainly helped by a stronger shilling and reduction in cost of major food items, electricity and fuel.

If oil goes to $125 then forget any price cuts at the pump...

Sigh of relief as fuel prices to fall further by Sh3-7 margin
BY JAMES WAMBUA
jmwambua@ke.nationmedia.com

Kenyans have a reason to smile as the energy
regulator projects that maximum price for petroleum products will decline in a week’s time.

According to the Energy Regulatory Commission
(ERC), provisional calculations give reductions at approximately Sh3.50 to Sh4.50 for Super Petrol and Sh6.00 to Sh7.00 for Kerosene and Diesel respectively.

ERC’s director general Kaburu Mwirichia said international prices of crude oil, its refined products and the average mean exchange
rate, the two main factors driving the retail prices of petroleum in the country,
were on a positive trend during the period November to December 2011.

“Taking these trends into account, the next price review due on 15th January is expected to yield a reduction of pump prices. The exact dropping charges will be announced after the
calculations are finalised,” said Mr Mwirichia

...

The average mean exchange rate of the shilling
to the dollar improved by 7.4 per cent from 93.64 in November to 86.66 in December 2011.

There has been a steady drop of fuel prices in the last one month following the strengthening of the shilling against the major world currencies.

And aren't these 'updates' given so enthusiastically by the MOE nowadays similar to the ones KK was giving before they were banned from doing so?

Trust KK to lead the way...

looks like finding oil in your country doesn't translate to lower fuel prices.

In addition, subsidies have never been a smart idea in the longrun, especially in this boom-burst economic models we use.

The next Ponzi Scheme to implode is Western unemployment benefits & welfare check system. Productivity supports social programs. Thus, as their productivity declines (recession) there will be a drop in remittance and then POP!! More blood on Main Street.

China gets their oil from Libya. Why isn't China involved? (Toppling Cde Gaddafi, R.I.P) They're going out spending billions of dollars a day on trying to take over the world economically. And we're spending billions and billions and billions of dollars on policing the world. Why isn't China involved with Libya? That - we don't get oil from Libya, China does. - Donald Trump

I support health care for people. I want people well taken care of. But I also want health care that we can afford as a country. I have people and friends closing down their businesses because of Obamacare. - Donald Trump
