I am thinking of getting my first car later this year, i would like a Peugeout 504, a car that I have admired since I was a small kid. I understand they dont make them any more but I still see some around. What is your advice if you have used it before. Would you recommend it for a first car to a total novice who can barely drive?

Pros:
-Even my 13 yr old son can maintain it.
-Parts cheap.

Cons:
-Fuel guzzler - is it the 1.9l or the newer 1.6l?
-Manual steering.

BTW, does it come with a Kamaru cowboy hat and riding boots?

There was a review of the car on DN (Wednesday) sometime late dec 2011 by one JM Baraza. The car was rated poorly, you will cry a river if what he highlighted was true. Read the review or ask @Guka wa bijuti for some advise.

- guzzles fuel like crazy
- manual everything from steering to gears etc
- will always break down whenever it rains
- no resell value. there are even peeps who would not take it for free

asanteni kwa maoni, I saw the review in the Nation, I have been a keen follower of this car though I have never driven it, what if it is totally overhauled before I start using it? Would you change your mind

@Tumektwa Bibi I am working on that too vision 2016

Seeing is believing, go ahead and burn your fingers and see whether you like it.

The only reason you need this car is just because its your childhood dream - go with your head on this one and dont let emotions get in the way!I wish i had listened when i bought my first car...just about your age! I later pawned it to a guy who paid for it in three years and i wrote off 40% of what he owed me as bad debt.

Listen to what you are being told here...If you don't need advise, dont ask for it.

Total overhaul? that will cost you as much as a better car not to mention things might not fit in place and u will have to visit the mech every weekend. are you ready for that life? are you ready to throw some kicks at your so beloved car? my friend a car can make a grown a** man cry!

Consider the advise you being given. I tried to fix an old car but had to give up after a year of trying its better to get a japanese mtumba first then look for your 504 and fix it at your own pace fixing those car is really really hard work even getting a good mechanic is a nightmare

you remind me of a thread sometimes I think 2009/2010 on 'your first car'. tafuta archives for that hilarious thread...am lazy for that now. but it has to be one of the most educative threads I have read...when I used to come to SK with a notebook.
