A good day for Pensioners, but on the other hand Chris Foy is a disgrace!

Someone told me that Man Utd have made the best January signing - Chris Foy to replace the aging Howard Webb!

For me the Kompany tackle was not even a yellow card. But the ref just followed the rule book that says any two footed challenge (both feet off the ground kwanza)is dangerous play. Of course it changed the entire match.

However, in the end, we were barely hanging on to the win,no thanks to Scholes and Lindergaard for the 2nd goal - seems we don't have goalkeepers that can keep thir cool in big matches;goalie dropped the ball twice - first to allow Kun to follow up for the 2nd and then Kolarov's last ditch free kick which could have gone anywhere. Hope De Gea picks up fast!

Oh how I miss Vidic,8 goals conceded in 2 games!Mancini reckons they'll now win the EPL after losing the FA.His side fought valiantly, after the 2nd City goal, it didn't look like they were playing with 10 men! They are surely a force to reckon with.

Next up Liverpool at Anfield - not the fortress it once was. I'm hopeful with players returning.

"The biggest criticism you can make of a referee, is that he overshadows games that he officiates. Chris Foy, through that phenomenon, is becoming the poster-child for the introduction of video technology.

Two red cards in the QPR against Chelsea game, a clusterf*** of ineptitude through Stoke/Tottenham, and today’s series of poor decisions at Etihad Stadium. In all of those fixtures, the points were decided by the referee rather than the players. Yet again in a match overseen by Foy, we’re talking more about him than we are the football.

It’s not the pace of the game that’s rendering officials in this country so inept, nor is it a lack of understanding of the rules; instead, it’s a lack of common sense in our referees combined with there being too much scope for objectivity in the rules.

Vincent Kompany’s tackle of Nani wasn’t the product of malice, because frankly he’s not that stupid. A Premier League defender and a captain of a club doesn’t make a ‘reckless’ tackle inside the first half-an-hour of a cup tie against his side’s most bitter rival. Now, he may very well mistime a tackle, but that’s a yellow card – unless he’s using ‘unnecessary aggression’ or denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, he should be staying on the pitch.

Spare a thought for the players – one game’s fair tackle is another’s straight red card. When pundits and fans talk about consistency, this is what they mean. Given how low the footballing IQs of our referees seem to be, surely it’s time to take the interpretation element out of the rules that govern contact between players.

On a side note, I thought the way in which Vincent Kompany reacted to his red card was outstanding – a captain’s example. Other City players may have bawled and screamed over the decision, but the Belgian just accepted it – regardless of its controversy. That’s quite rare in football now."

Blaming the referee isn't always the answer
For City, the temptation was to blame Chris Foy. They booed him off the pitch at the end. There were cries of "fix" and "cheat" and, at half-time, Roberto Mancini's right-hand man, David Platt, was waiting for him at the entrance of the tunnel. The anger was clear and voluble, and there is no getting away from the fact that Vincent Kompany's red card left them in a state of disrepair. Yet Kompany, as captain, failed his team the moment he launched himself off the ground with both feet. It does not matter what intent he had, or how much of Nani and the ball he got; the simple fact is that a player raising both feet in a sliding tackle is asking for trouble. Foy made mistakes, inevitably, but the bigger ones took place long after Kompany had left the pitch. Aleksandar Kolarov brought down Antonio Valencia for a clear penalty at 3-1 and City could have taken the game to a replay if Phil Jones's handball had been spotted.

Today will be the D day.

King Henry will be dribbling against Leeds. RvP isn't playing instead the King will play his position. I expect the King to connect well with Theo James and Park.
I expect a 3-0 to Arsenal.

One would be mistaken to believe City that City were leading when Kompany was sent off. Abou Diaby, Torres are all recipients of similar red cards in the past - yet TAZ and crew never gave their expert opinions on the matter. Ama it's coz they weren't playing against United then?
A similar tackle, actually softer one from Kevin Davies has kept Cleverly in the treatment room for almost 4 months. Nani was lucky, Tom was not.
Hats off Foy!
