there is some con going on between Moneybookers and Equity bank. I recently lost 43 dollars on two transactions while transfering money from moneybookers to my equity bank. Equity bank further deducts 1200 for the two transactions and numerous calls to customer care only end without knowing how the money got lost.

Perhaps you need to consider other means.

Btw, Equity bank exchanged my money at 80.10 while the market rate was 83.60. Is this legal? They claimed that it was their counter exchange rate and was denied the option of getting the dollars and exchange elsewhere.

Money bookers and equity, there is something fishy. Choose some other means of sending the money.

Open a dollar account, get your cash in USD then go change it elsewhere at whatever rate. Even with a USD account, usually they offer to change for me the USD to Ksh but I always decline and look for a bargain elsewhere.
Lord, thank you!
