Yesterday i saw an inspirational story on Citizen TV about primary school pupils from a school in Narok (cant remember the name) who are using Ipads donated by a USA based firm for about 17k each.

With this they can access over 3000 text books and this has made learning so easy that instead of dropping out, pupils are trooping to the school.

Problem is, The Ipads require power. The school relies on a small generator which at times has no fuel.

What if they had electricity? Is KPLC listening?

Maybe this is the way to fulfill the over 4 decades promise by the government of eradicating illiteracy

Now I am no technician but I think one should be thinking towards solar power?

Whilst the benevolence is appreciated, it is not very strategic - they should have thought of how the pupils would be able to benefit from the ipads by providing solar or go for donation of textbooks directly. Textbooks would have reached more children than an ipad can.

Well put, i dont see as to how a couple of ipads can effectively transform education in the area. Its like serving chicken to a starved and famine stricken village. Text books would have been in order.

Were they iPads or Kindle, or some other ereader? Please get your facts straight.

It was actually the Kindle Fire. The school is Ntimigom Primary School. amazon could have done better as th Fire has too many glitches, cost of petrol also high. Wish they would have considered solar power. However there were enough text books . Guess the donor didnt want the publicity, but guess who carried the day in the minds of the teachers/locals.
