Couldn't have put it any better!

God's plan for prosperity includes everything. Yet, too often, we associate prosperity with just money. Money is a part of prosperity, but only a small part. In fact, money is the lowest form of prosperity.

This is what prompted Paul to write, "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment" (1 Timothy 6:17).

I know of a rich muhindi son who became better than his parents at not paying taxes.

What's important in any kid is his character, discipline and values. And this is what children should strive to be better on than their parents

Mchungaji, I disagree. As much as I would like my kids to have a better life than the one I had/have, I wouldnt peg my success on my parents position. I would rather focus on BEING THE BEST I CAN BE. Comparing oneself to parents may lead to mediocrity if all you do is aim to be better than them. Conversely, it may lead to frustration if your parents were stars of some sort eg Mandelas children would not find it that easy to make themselves a name half as big as their dad. Then why would you want to use strong words like failure and curse? This coming from a preacher would bring disrepute to the name of God!

Dont see what the problem with that message is after all When some of us were growing up, we got the same advise from our parents. We were taught to set our sights higher than our parents. Most of us want and work for our children to get/have the best and by that I mean the best education, manners, opportunities, friends and what have you. So what would be wrong with telling my child to be better than I am???? I might be the wealthiest in my neighbourhood but the unhealthiest or the most ill-mannered. There is always something that our kids can be better at, than we are, just do not limit them to surpass parents achievements.

I was not sure what to contribute. But I kind of agree with Laughing out loudly. I think that one ought to strive to be better than what exists in his circumstance. Therefore, one does not compete with other human beings. That is where things start going wrong. Just my thoughts.
