And this is just what I remember off the top of my head. There is way too much room (and finances) to improve it, just have lousy lazy people.
It is still far better than the old Harare airport, where security guards used to cook on stoves in the departure lounge at one point, and everyone had the fear that they would get robbed, 10 years ago.

I just cant understand-is it too much to ask for KAA to upgrade their washrooms! they just stink. Egal airport in Hargeisa is waaaay better in this

Well I don’t know which side they are suppose to belong but fact is they will try to ‘illegally’ squeeze something out of you in the pretext that your weight is above what is reflected on your airline ticket. I think these are airport staff and do not belong to the airline you are travelling with. I am talking from a bitter experience. Assume you’re allowed a check in luggage of 23kg by the airline and 7kg as hand luggage, in total the luggage allowed is thus 30kg. I once presented a check in luggage of 28kg and zero hand luggage at JKA and was charged for the ‘extra’ 5kg. The figure quoted in dollars was astronomically high; however I was advised to put a certain negotiated amount in my passport and hand it over. They capitalize on ones' naivety because in essence your allowed weight should be the total of check in and hand luggage.

I have never seen a situation where your luggage is weighed by KAA or KRA/Customs for that matter. What i know for sure is that the check-in staff for the company that is flying you will do that since they have to compute the total weight of passengers and luggage on the aeroplane and charge excess fees. On the other hand KAA and Customs guys will inspect for contraband and goods you need to declare in your luggage on landing so there is nothing like paying for weight related issues. Currently, the fact that it does hold up some operations is by chance and not design. Then the next thing we hear are talks of a railway line connecting to the airport. While these are all good ideas, one wonders why they cannot first solve the big problems that require simple solutions and are feasible within our lifetime.

Good article @ eboomerang ..the weight issue is on departure and of course KRA/Customs is not involved. The first entry point when you are departing is weight check….if you are travelling by Qatar air for instance it’s not the Qataris who will do that, it’s some airport’s desk staff

The one airport I detest is the one that updates its FB status this way: 'I have just started 'seeing the moon' today
then 9 guys LIKE the status, while 12 guys comment: THANK GOD!
Now thats one heck of a busy airport!

Believe it or not, one of the ladies who man(or is it woman?)the scanners requested for "lunch" from me at Moi International Airport, Msa last wednesday........I guess these are the people who give JKIA/KQ a bad name. IF YOU EXPECT ME TO POST ANYTHING POSITIVE ABOUT ASENO, YOU MAY AS WELL SIT ON A PIN

Good article @ eboomerang Fact this one: You cant combine hand luggage is hand luggage and check in luggage is check in luggage, you can't blame KAA for any weight issue, that is a fact......KAA only inspects the contents of your bag!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

My observation with JKIA is plain and simple, disorganized! whay do I say so 1. We don't have to que to do baggage security screen at the entrance, just take the dumb baggage go screen it on your own. Airports that handle HUGE traffic do it that way and even smaller airports like Kotoka with considerable traffic handle it the same way. 2. Too much greed - why should we have a squeezed waiting bay because duty free shops have taken all the space? and all they sell is similar stuff/ alcohol, tobacco and sovenirs? doesn't make sense. Schipol which is my idea airport has sections for similar kind of stuff tucked in same corner. 3. Corruption- speed up the additional terminal building works, that way you attract more big carriers coz you have additional security in that in coming and out going passangers never meet. Delta won't be here any time soon with the current model. 4. Maintainance - what's the immigration area supposed to be? you embark and find yourself in a dark coloured archaic hall similar to a cast in WW2 movies. What impression are we giving first time visitors, can you also fix the toilets or at a minuimum clean them and have some additional sockets on the wall? That having been said we aren't doing bad compared to Muhamed Murtala and Doula airports. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Dubai is very discramanitive they have no time for 'others ' infact you board KQ in their gheto . Kualupar is ok . Bankong is fair . New Delhi and Mumbai Whatever what you Call them they stink unanusa sewage when uko kwa airbus . The pilots are true bhai . Landing now don't vory no beer but Lutti . Nairob is home .fresh air warm smile etc . Peace be with you

... I think JKIA is not that bad, I hate the parking situation, otherwise alot of Kenyans just stink so I expect the airport to stink too (both airports). I think the government should handout deodorants.... maybe make salary deductions and send everyone with a job a deodorant as part of the pay and then drop some in every corner of a street. I hate the smell of sweats......
