It just occurred to me that every other day some work group in Kenya is talking about "we will strike unless....". KPLC, KNH, KUSCO, KNUT, UASU....just about everybody!

Isn't this a little overboard? Where does the resources come from to send home everyone with a six figure salary on a monthly basis? I think we need to sobre up? We are now worse than Greece on this front, yet our challenges are not anywhere near what the Greek are having dealing with.

The floor is open.

Some of these strikes serve to bring to light the mismanagement that’s going on in some of these institutions and sometimes highlight the failure of sytems that are supposed to benefit the public. Take the Referral hospitals’ strikes – health workers going on strike because they lack basic facilities to do discharge their role (among other reasons) is something that benefits everyone else directly. Who wants to be rushed to a hospital where there are no drugs and facilities.
KPLC-they were citing unfair employment practices like employing people as “permanent casuals” (oxymoron I know)...

A strike often shows that there has been a breakdown in communication between the employer and employee. I think each case should be examined on its merits instead of rushing to conclude that the employees are always wrong and unreasonable when they resort to industrial action.

Common just before and during election years. Arm twist politicians into some pre-election pledge...

So far it's the only language the government understands.
