Bottom line, I still hold a lot of respect for the GoK being extra shrewd by packaging a 50B IPO and selling history to the investing public smile credits go out to Uncle Hon. Kimunya (best Finance Minister ever!) and Scangroup ;-)

Interesting, so there problem is managerial not realy the product itself. That can be fixed, they need to do a paradigm shift and focus on the bottom line, profits!!! Im just wondering how their operational income and other expenses rose by 50%??? This shows very bad financial decision making by management. Hopefully in 3-5 years, it will have sorted this out, I sense a good opportunity to buy when it completely crashes!

Safcom spends bigtime on adverts and now forex eats 1.3b but going forward i think 2nd half will be better due to a strengthening shilling, easing inflation and expense cuts.

How long will the 10% rule be lifted after an important announcement on a counter?

Profit warnings are issued at the discretion of the company.. They are not at all compulsory!

thiis is when a listed company informs the shareholders that their perfomance shall be lower than the previous period. The essance should be that if at all one is buying he is aware of that when determining the valuation.

Wrong!

"(1) An issuer shall disclose all material information and make a public announcement of:

.........
..........
........,,
...........
(f) any profit warning, where there is a material discrepancy between the projected earnings for the current financial year and the level of earnings in the previous financial year.

(2) For the purposes of subparagraph (1)(f), the expression “material discrepancy” in relation to projected earnings fora financial year means that such earnings are at least 25% lower than the level of earnings in the previous financial year."

These were half year results. I expect Safcon to issue a profit warning in the 2nd half of its financial year unless a miracle happens.

@Mpenzi, well said. Profit warning for FY results a must. Isn't it ironical how many Wazuans were agitating for a profit warning Mar 2011 (when tariffs were first reduced) only to be disappointed. And now it happens unexpected...

I also found this interesting:

Revenue shows company performed well in a tough environment, yet profit before taxation declined (5.0b)

If you take Operating Expenses (4.9b) and Selling General Administrative Expenses (1.7b) you get the missing 6.3b

Is it likely that Vodafone is doing better than Safaricom?
For HY Revenue Up 4%
with EBITDA margin 32%
decline in net profit 3%
interim+special dividend up 7% (for a 7% yield)?

Or Vodacom is doing better than Safaricom?
For HY Revenue up 8%
with EBITDA margin of 35%
increase in net profit 3%
interim dividend up 44% (for a 7% yield)

Nice!

Seems people have never realised that the MPESA doesn't belong to Safaricom......Safcom is just a tenant and the bulk of the profits (nay calculated as percentage of revenue) are shipped to England.

The GoK was very strategic in disposing Safcom when it was at its peak.

Happy Hunting.

I spent the whole of last night consulting on this. There some intelligence quarters that are of opinion this might be stage managed to create an impression that Scom is doing badly to devalue the stock price. According to my sources, they believe sub-2/= is possible. They will buy in bulk at the that level.

The performance will improve eventually n so will stock price to 5/= n they will dispose their bulk holding. There you have it...campaign funds PAP!
