With all these forex losses that NSE firms are suffering from, can't they employ hedges or better forex traders I like this stone-cold results, a sobering moment for the Mr Market. Wanjiku wont survive here. $15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

What are you people praising Airtel et al for? In case you missed it, Safaricom voice revenues went down only 5% and total revenues actually went UP 5%... The issue is operating expenses which would have gone up REGARDLESS of Airtel, Yu etc.

An army is hierachical, its autocratic leader instills fear, and many a rival despise its achievements. A social movement is all-inclusive, its leader takes time to build consensus, and goodwill felt on all fronts is welcome. mlennyma wrote:The end of an era. Profitability list reads Eabl, KCB, Equity, BBK then Safaricom. Is it likely that Vodafone is doing better than Safaricom? For HY Revenue Up 4% with EBITDA margin 32% decline in net profit 3% interim+special dividend up 7% (for a 7% yield)? Or Vodacom is doing better than Safaricom? For HY Revenue up 8% with EBITDA margin of 35% increase in net profit 3% interim dividend up 44% (for a 7% yield)

For me this was anticipated. Regardless of the forex, cost of doing business, etc. Safaricom has a problem; Taking its clients for granted and greed. They have the capacity for data, Why is their internet the most expensive in the market, they could have comfortably locked in all the individual data users with a lower data prices and superspeeds thus capitalizing on economies of scale. It also has the highest calling rates in the market; why would anyone with an alternative stick with them????

... A few years ago, I was ask to write a one page analytical report about Safaricom, the report was going to be used by some people to decide whether to invest in Safaricom IPO or not. ... My conclusion then was, Safaricom profitability times were behind and on IPO I concluded that it was going to trade at down to 50% by the close of the trading week. Of course Kenyan investors weren't happy about my analysis because most Kenyan invest in Safaricom because they love the company! .... Safaricom is like Apple or Google, It is a valued company, it is nolonger in growth phase anymore so if anyone wanna make a retirement investment, Safaricom is the company, if anyone wanna make money, look for growth companies not valued companies. One more thing, Safaricom could infact be overpriced by the market the phenomeno is common for highly branded companies.

Its a shame that call from other networks are cheaper than within safaricom network. pride comes b4 a fall. I have a feeling the market is not done with this company. Don't wait for the Last Judgment. It happens every day. ~Albert Camus, The Fall, 1956

Investors are forward thinking (atleast smart money)and tomorrow we might be surprised when huge demand comes through.. this is one heck of a resilient stock...and thats what i like it for ..
