That was expected.Competition is stiff in the telecoms sector.Come end of the year mantle of the most profitable company will be with KCB then Equity and Barclays Bank

Kenya's largest telecoms operator Safaricom posted a 48.3 percent slide in pretax profit on Wednesday to 5.397 billion shillings ($55.8 million) in its first-half to the end of September.

Figures from the firm, which is partly held by Vodafone , showed a 5.3 percent increase in revenues to 49.628 billion shillings was more than offset by a 22.6 percent jump in operating expenses and a 25.5 percent rise in other costs.

This is not good news. This is surely a bear market. Interestingly voice only dropped 5% that is weird considering of the voice price wars.

Competition is healthy. This company used to declare supernormal profits at a time when the dollar was trading at between 70-75 bob. In the early days one was charged 52/= bob for calling then Kencell and about 28/= for calls within network. They never even used to care, terming their customers humans "with peculiar calling habits". Think their honeymoon has come to an end.
