I don't think that's something I would want to do. There are no guarantees it would stop. Two unsubscriptions from the customer care agents and they are yet to stop.

Regardless, I never sent START to the short code. They have already thieved money from me, no need to add to that!

Qognito... Were you complaining to customer rep from the PRS or from Safaricom.. Like Muganda said, operators are not allowed to charge Premium rates.

My initial complaint was to the safaricom c.c agent. At that time I didn't know who was taking slices of my credit. That's how I came to know 3767 and their contacts.

The second and subsequent follow up was to the PRS c.c agent.

Safaricom may not be alllowed to charge premium rates, but they owe me "duty of care". I think it's only fair that I am billed for what I voluntarily spend.
Safaricom bills me and passes the money to the PRS.

Isn't that the contention? What right do they have to bill me on behalf of a third party that I have no relationship with?

@Qognito sounds like SMS/credit/PRS gangs on the loose.
I still think best bet is to launch official complaints on email to Safaricom customer care, fraud etc - heck copy bcollymore (at) safaricom.co.ke if need be!

It's your money after all.

Care to share the safaricom customer care e-mail address? I have not gotten through 100 line. Unless I visit the customer care centre again.

Might raise the issue to get to the bottom of it. I was a bit complacent since it's not money I would go fighting over, but it's my money after all!

was happening to me almost 6 months. imagine 20 bob x 30 x 6= 3600. i threatened to sue them. My colleague discovered the same after i alerted him and he almost went to court. I think thios is the language that will stop such daylight robbery.

@Qognito pole, haven't been back here in ages. I'm not an expert or affiliated with Safaricom but here's what I gather:

Customer care email: customercare@safaricom.co.ke
Since it requires some investigation, you could also just call Fraud 0722 003137 and discuss.

Quick update:
I managed to register at https://selfcare.safaricom.co.ke and went through my phone charge logs. There is no record of a charge for an SMS to the PRS number.

The "insufficient funds" SMSs did stop after I raised a customer service request on that portal.

My previous visits to the customer care agents were a smoke-screen, nothing was ever done. When I had asked them to check whether there was evidence of a subscription to that PRS number, they had laughed it off alluding they were not responsible for my number or transactions carried on it. Made me feel like I'd lost my mind telling them I had not subscribed. Kumbe they had all the information they needed to confirm that I had made no such subscription.

Still waiting on the refund of the fraudulent deductions, which has not been forthcoming as promised over 2 weeks ago. My requests to be told how I was subscribed to the service have not been answered. Any customer service request I raise to ask for an explanation and refund is promptly closed without resolution or reference to me.

I have raised one last customer service request for the refund and an explanation on how I was subscribed there being no record of a charged SMS to the PRS number. If this one is closed as well, I may raise it with CCK.

As a last resort, if I do get a pro-bona lawyer, I may sue for the little money pilferaged from my account, the mental anguish, time wasted following up on it and legal costs of course.

It all depends on what I feel like doing at the moment.

So, Does Safaricom condone third party fraud?-- YOU DECIDE!

Oh the memories. Still remember this topic
I managed to port out my number to a different network, gladly.
The irony is, barely a day after that, I get the Safaricom Spam/Promotion SMS that prepay subscribers can now unsubscribe from PRS services by *100#

Haha the irony... these guys can be funny too.

Please dont spam me Safaricom, I left your network already.

@Qognito, good walk down memory lane.
The *100# and *200# was long overdue - you can now get premium rate guys off your airtime.

Interested to find out how life is on the other side. Is the grass greener or did the premium leeches follow you there?

Dear wazuans,

I thought I was the omly one. Sometime in april last year I got such a message "Insufficient funds" while the phone is in the bag but on going to customer care, they told me lots of nonsense. Ati I must have subscribed. Forgetting I had a phone I could barely use. I was so mad I threw away that line.

Today I have got that sort of message on my modem. Enyewe these guys are thieves. Forget about third party coz my modem line has never seen the inside of a phone!!!
