@Juz Blazin
Very well put. I agree totally, ninaunga mikono yote hata miguu.

@Wendz
Some people remain ignorant even after years of going to school. Just as some guy will try to marry another wife just because "She has failed to give me a boy". Gender determination is from the man's chromosomes!

That is very interesting. I used to be against the idea of getting married to someone who has a child or children from a previous relationship. I believed strongly that if you father a child with another woman or you bear a child with another man then you are obliged to marry them and if you marry another you are sinning. My views have since changed though i wonder what the good book says about this

Is that what they teach? Is there a biblical basis for this?

@Shak, very valid question. I dont think I've ever seen any biblical reference to this, but my guess would be that when you have sex with someone, you get joined together as one flesh. Hence that could be the basis for the obligation to marry, more so with physical evidence of a kid. But an explanation for that could have been lost in translation. The more we seek a way out, the more we get lost. I would also want to find out what the good book says.

Now Wahome says that he divorced his first wife under customary law and even if he didn't, he would still be right in re-marrying as he is allowed to be a polygamist. Legally speaking, he is right but he has no biblical backing for divorcing his wife for cruelty.

Then this brings us back to the contentious issue of polygamy.
