has anyone used the ferry from Mbita to Lwanda Kotieno? Tried googling this and came across this link http://travelpace.wordpr...15/lake-victoria-ferry/ - dated 2010 - any more recent experiences?

Thinking if I go to Nyanza via Narok/Kisii, perhaps better go via Homa Bay, then take the ferry at Mbita and motor onwards to Bondo then Ugunja and avoid circumnavigating the lake.

What are the charges like and does it really trake 50 mins? On google maps it looks like 5-6 km

And yes, can swim smile

You wait for the ferry if not lucky enough to find it at the shores. Journey takes about avg 45mins and if I remember well payment is only for the vehicles. If you have a vehicle then pray that there are no VIPs awaiting or expected around that time to use the ferry. Yours might be pulled out as happened to Dr. Sally Kosgei.
