The staff through their unions held hostage to the management demanding payrise among other stuff, since August.
The young CEO (kindu 45) instead returned the strike to them by grounding all QANTAS aircraft wherever they were in the world at that moment and locking out all unionizable employs out of company pemises with immediate effect.

This was "Operation Shock and Awe" (OSA) as all employees including the government and premier Julia Gillard were not expecting this drastic move!

On the surface of things, the Fair Work Australia (FWA) ruling looks like a humiliation for Qantas CEO Alan Joyce as his airline is ordered back into the skies - having been unilaterally grounded by the airline's management.

But it could in fact be a strategic victory for Mr Joyce.
