The etymology of "assassin" says the word evolved or was adapted from Hashshashin, an old group of Persian guards / soldiers [see Wikipedia, Assassin]. "Invent" is the wrong word here, same as you can't say Vasco da Gama invented America or Johann Krapf invented Mt Kenya.
