Feature in Daily Nation today..

..should a man go through the emotional trauma of watching their partner push and scream and curse and bleed in the delivery room? can this experience subdue romantic attachment the man has with the woman?..

Not true. Been there. Done that. None of those has occurred.

I listen to a bit of jazz and I would compare the delivery room experience to John Coltrane's "A LOVE SUPREME", especially the live version recorded at the Festival Mondial du Jazz Antibes in 1965.

If you walked into a room and found the music half-way through, you would not understand why over 500,000 copies of the record were bought. It sounds chaotic and without any order - just a bunch of guys playing instruments out of sync with each other.

But if you listen to it from the beginning and go through the full 49min, 19sec from "Acknowledgement" to "Psalm", you will hear the musicians start from a common rhythm, then digress/disagree/argue and finally agree on a new tune. It is quite a magical experience - not for the weak hearted, or the impatient.

It is the same with the delivery room experience. If you walk-in half-way through, you might faint in sympathy for your partner. However, if you start with her from the first contraction and build-up together through to the final push, you will understand the miracle of child-birth and gain greater respect for your wife.

Now let me read the article and hear what the doctor's are saying....
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Do those who go into the ward loose morale for landing?
Of the 9 months, which ones are safe for landing? and after delivery, is landing still after a few months?

Neither. It was very humbling and like @mukiha has said above gave me even more respect for my partner (and mum too). Before that was advised that if I attended the delivery it could either make our relationship stronger or destroy it. Don't know about that but it was the former for me.

@nostoppingthis landing has not been affected negatively in any way. smile
