Was suprised the other day when I noticed a KEBS sticker on my Nescafe jar. On closer inspection I discovered that my favourite cup of coffee is imported all the way from Brazil, Araras factory. I always bought nescafe thinking its a Kenyan product.

Isn't regularly said that Kenya has the best coffee?? The main reason I had chosen Nescafe over cafepele is the origin. Why don't Nescafe sell us Kenyan coffee??

Whatever happened to Buy Kenyan Build Kenya?Now buying Sasini.....

You are correct; Kenyan coffee is "considered" the best in the world, but it is also the most expensive.

If Nestle were to put Kenya coffee in Nescafe, very few Kenyan would be able to afford it. Therefore, it makes perfect business/marketing sense to import the poor-quality stuff from Brazil..... It used to be from Bahamas when I last checked...

Same thing happens to Mauritius sugar. It is said to be the best in the world....and also most expensive. For that reason, Mauritians export ALL their sugar and then import cheap poorer quality stuff for local consumption.

Thus it also makes national economic sense...

In my language, we have proverb that says something like: "The person who makes pots cooks with the ones that are broken" {Mumbi arugaga na ngiyo}

So, it also makes cultural sense!
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Invest in a french press and buy ground Kenyan coffee. It tastes so much better than that freeze dried "bakshishi" as @butterflyke puts it.
