Being a great leader and being popular is not always the same thing. As a leader, you must have the foresight to do things whose value the masses may not initially grasp and will only appreciate after several decades e.g. Professor Wangari Muta Maathai

Tutafakari hayo.
All my friends are heathens, take it slow. Wait for them to ask you who you know. Please don't make any sudden moves.

Agreed!!! In terms of infrastructure she has really done wonders. I recently went there to meet someone at their conference center and was amazed at the developments since I last visited the University years ago. I actually got a bit lost.

But in terms of academics, I think the university is bure kabisa! I understand there are classes of up to 500 students! I have heard of classes of up to 200 students being taught Java programming by a lecturer using a microphone!!! Some students can hardly see the board let alone what is being written on it! How does such a lecturer supervise and mark the CATs? You can bet the CATs are short, there is massive cheating, some CATs are probably never marked etc.

The university also had most of their Engineering courses rejected by the Engineers board a few months ago. Some of the courses were too shallow. What should be a single Engineering course is split into four different courses - not detailed enough even for a technicians course. Some of the (proposed) departments didn't have even a single qualified Engineer while some didn't have even a single lecturer trained in the area of specialization.

Which rankings? Webometrics ?

How can we pat ourselves in the back when we can only manage position 4,803? There is nought to be proud about.

Prof. Mugenda has done far much better than Prof. Eshiwani and Standa combined. That's a fact!

But there is a good reason why there should be leadership change in every organization after a period of time. The good prof. has concentrated on physical infrastructure while ignoring the academic side of things. Now KU needs an academician/scholar who will concentrate on content, delivery, quality, research programs etc.

KU a world class institution? Based on what? Buildings? Let's get real!

And for those quoting the rankings (positive or negative), you should know that they are not reliable at all. Institutions are not visited neither the quality of their graduates considered. The ranking is done based purely on the content of the university's site. If you have departments full of professors, your graduates are some of the best, you have numerous completed and ongoing research etc., you will appear nowhere on the rankings if these information is not captured in your site. On the other hand, a university that manages to play the web while still being bure kabisa on the ground goes up in ranking. I stand to be collected.

Now KU is not alone in cramming 800students in a lecture hall. The UoN where I was a student is also a culprit. Students sit even on stairs in lecture halls.

Agreed, nothing to be proud with this rank. But then again, this is only the online presence , ie the content on the KU website.

And by the way, this the best so far by KU. They were 9000+ in 2009.
