I know we discussed this matter when it was still hot. Now the excitement is over and reality has set in. This is the right time to ask whether this is a good business idea.

I have a piece of idle land in Kamulu and I just thought I could put up one greenhouse to try and get something out of the land.

What are people's experiences?
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Certainly a good idea if you have a reliable source of water and reliable farm staff.

Hope the reliable water source will not be tapped from the water going to the NCC Ruai waste treatment works..

@Mukiha.. every industry has billionaires and paupers. Yes, there is money in drip irrigation farming. But really, do you think a 20m tube will be worth your while? You decide but it adds no value in doing telephone farming or any other business for that matter. Ask @ ali how his matatu fared!

If you do not intend to focus on it in the long term and make good money out of it, forget it!

My old man just set up 2 hec of drip, open air, not in a green house. Its just started. Maybe will tell if its a good venture.

@bwenyenye, thats correct. The mats ziliniota kama kuni. If you want/plan to do business, you better be prepared to do it yourself and not be making calls to know. If you aren't there, just don't start it. On greenhouse, why not improvise? You can halve the price bt still have something technically and busineswise viable. I find 180k high.

This company is a fraud (Agrotunnel International Limited) . Bought a hydroponics greenhouse from them and it doesn’t work. Once they have got your money your calls either go unanswered or they are full of excuses but no action. As of today almost six months down the line, they have not delivered the racks I had ordered and paid for. They are totally clueless when it comes to hydroponics technology. I would urge anyone thinking of dealing with this company to proceed with caution

@ Bwenyenye you are right...people make money in every sector..the simple rule i have discovered is learn your business,I have a green house 24 by 8 m...first season wasnt good as i hadnt installed a drip system,did tomatoes that got affected by bacterial wilt and white flies productivity was at 20% thereabout...did onions thereafter also dint produce as expected but then this season av done tomatoes and they did pretty well and as you know the price wers over the roof at some point so its should be labour of love learn from your mistakes and try make your product better....
@ali i agree leaving a new biz for other peeps to run it is a disaster in the making the probability of it gn down is high...a neighbour of ours lost 5 of his high yielding cows he apparently kosanad with his long time farm manager and he brought in a new guy...5 cows in bizzare circumstances,thevproblem is he has an 8-5 and only visits over the weekend...
