I am sure there are a couple of us who are in the online business. There must also be many of us who are at home with modems and computers in their bedrooms but they waste their lives watching who knows what and blogging/social networking all day. You might also need something to supplement your income.

Well, been away for long trying this out. Posted a lot here on whether there was a legit online biz but most guys kept saying its a scam. Well, it isn't. I quit most of what I was doing for an online business. I started at Freelancer.com. Here you can use the following tips to success:

1. Create a good profile. Make sure you really sell the services that you offer.
2. Write an article. This must be original or you can rewrite. The most famous topics to write about are health, money and relationships. Make sure if you rewrite you don't repeat 5 words in a row otherwise copyscape premium will detect it and no client will employ you.
3. Bid for jobs. Make sure you attach the sample.
4. Satisfy the clients. You may start with $0.75 or $1 jobs but do your best with these clients. When you finish the projects and get good reviews you can easily get other employers. When you get to 6 reviews and above the employers will be looking for you.
5. Go long term. Some clients will ask you to go long-term. It is good to take this option when they are paying well and in good time.
6. Look for other online options. Check out this video of how this guy is making millions online

I would like to awaken all those who are doing this business to share their experience in this thread.

We are enjoying a temporary advantage with the dollar rate increasing...we are making more cash.

Feel free to ask any questions. And anyone who can write can tell me we hook up something.

So the online businesses are basically writing jobs or are there any others? I've never understood exactly what it is they entail.

I agree with you that On line Businesses are the the in thing with the current Dollar rate. There are however various challenges in this biz..like whats the best and cheapest method of payment??...paypal, moneybookers et al.

Also,the area of academic writing pays really well(sometimes better than SEO) although i personally think that it is unethical. Other areas of online biz require real skill/Expertise and talent as in Webdesign and photography.

@Mponzi, not really..they're various ways you can earn money online such as monetizing your website/blog, joining an affiliate program and freelancing.

Making money through freelancing is the easiest and hence commonly used by many Kenyans. If you have a particular skill, just register in a freelancing site such as freelancer.com, odesk.com, elance.com, among others.

Writing is popular only because it doesn't require extreme technical skills like programming or website design. all in all, writing skill is essential for you to be successful online since you'll have to market your services.

@Hello, I personally do not have any ethical issue with writing academic paper...I mean should I let an opportunity go while my family starve. provided its not illegal,then its okay to participate in it at least until you get another option.

YES! You should!

If the opportunity was to steal, would take it?

You know it's wrong steal; you know it's wrong to write an academic paper for some one else.

It's just that simple: YOU KNOW IT'S WRONG!
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

@mapozi

There are many jobs online…from writing, to graphic design, web design, data entry, virtual assistance e.t.c. Writing is what I do. If you look at the video I have posted, you’ll find that Eben Pagan is a millionaire purely from creating online learning products. Many more ways of earning including what Baumoney has stated.

@ms.goody

All the payment methods have their advantages and disadvantages.

PayPal is great but difficult to withdraw in Kenya. Only recently KCB introduced a prepaid debit card with which you can withdraw directly from their ATMs. I am getting myself one soon.
Moneybookers is great in that it sends the cash directly into your account and works with most banks. It is the most common way guys use here. It has the charge of Sh. 600 per withdrawal which seems high to me.

MasterCard is also great, especially for travellers. It is free to transfer cash from Freelancer.com to Payoneer (which gives you a Freelancer.com MasterCard). After that Payoneer will charge you $2 to load the MasterCard in 2-3 days or if you want it loaded immediately it will cost you $5. It will be cheaper than Moneybookers if you take the 2-3 days option but if you take the immediate load, it will be the same since ATM withdrawal is $0.9. If you are following this math the whole process for immediate load will have cost you 5.9 dollars which at the current dollar rate is almost 600.

I agree with you about the ethics of academic writing although it is one of those things which are always debatable so subject to an individual’s opinion. It has never been in me to do someone else’s homework. I have had this kutoka primo.

@Baumoney

Yeah, many great ways of making chumz.
Freelancing is great, especially when you reach a level of becoming an entrepreneur and get writers to do it for you at a commission and then get many clients at good rates. They say Academic Writing pays better but has its ethical debate.

@mukiha

Hi man. You’re still one of my favorite skerian/wazuan. I remember voting for you some time back.

I agree fully with what you are saying about academic papers. I hear in the western countries they are allowed to hire someone to do for them the research but they are not allowed to present it exactly as given. ALL academic writers know that this rule is not followed 99.99 percent of the time. The guys just submit the whole thing the way it is.

I asked a Christian friend of mine and he told me it is like working in a condom or cigarette company. Guys are told not to have sex till marriage/fornicate/outside marriage e.t.c. but they still use condoms in these wrong ways, of course there are a few marrieds who use them. Cigarettes are clearly written …harmful to your health but guys still smoke but few of them stop. For me I can’t work at a condom/cigarette company and I cannot do someone’s academic paper!

No I would not, but you cannot compare Academic writing with stealing, writing is legal.

I like the example of condoms and cigarets. Trust me, even the most religious and ethical person will not overlook working for this companies if they present the greatest opportunity.

@Baumoney

Actually I intentionally refused to do Academic Writing. I also personally know guys who have quit or passed working for those companies. I have a personal friend who had to make a choice between working 10 hours and work on Sunday and earn so much chumz. He opted for an NGO where he worked 5 days and be free on Sunday for almost half the chumz. The reason was that he could not miss Sunday and midweek services. He did not want to abandon God and family for his work.

Once again like I said, it's all about what's more important; religion and ethics or money.

My point is this; if you are blessed with many option then at least you can chose an opportunity that best suit your needs, beliefs and value. When that is not the case you have to capitalize on what you have.

Academic writing is not easy at all, and at times those companies might scam you by fining you for no apparent reason. But I can guarantee you without this opportunities so many young Kenyan could be suffering from an unemployment.

If we begin focusing on questionable ethics, you will find it in every profession and institutions, including in the Church. I mean isn't unethical for a pastor to accept a second car as a gift from his followers while they suffering from economic hardship...
