Payment made by a woman to her groom's family is called DOWRY.
Dowry is an Asian practice while Bride Price is African. Don't confuse the two.
Regardless of origin (Asian, Middle English, Anglo-Norman French etc) dowry does not exclusively refer to payment made by the woman to the husband's family:
Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary Quote:1 - money and/or property that, in some societies, a wife or her family must pay to her husband when they get married
2 - money and/or property that, in some societies, a husband must pay to his wife's family when they get married
He who can express in words the ardour of his love, has but little love to express. - Petrach, Son. (That men by various ways arrive at the same end. - Montaigne, The Essays of.)
