@ pablo,thanks. I tend to think the agricultural sector is overly lucrative. There's a famine in kenya every so often {God forbid} and one could cash in well by reading and mastering the seasons and the rules of commercial farming. If you can be able to be supplying the population with good produce all year out every year with maize,wheat,fruits,cabbage,nyanya,onions,beans....Name it- minting millions will be child play. Also,the govt has been very supportive,though not always,to farmers.
Sometime back,i saw a farmer on TV from nakuru who said he makes an average of ksh. 80,000/ per month from his slightly less than an acre farm. He grows tomatoes{ in a green house},has poultry and a fishpond. He's so successful that,due to the large number of visitors,he charges a 100/ per head.
Agriculture is lucrative. Au vipi Xtina?

I believe it is. My dad has a small farm here in Kiambu,and guess what,it has 2 rivers running through it. We have always planted stuff here for ourselves but since most of us kids are almost gone,i am trying to see if i can manage to get it and plant stuff to sell esp kales,tomatoes and watermelons. Water for the plants is not a problem,the rivers will help us,best of all transport costs won't be a lot coz of proximity to Kahawa West and Githurai which are densely populated. Once i start getting my produce,i will sell in those two above mentioned areas,i am guaranteed of a healthy ROI.
How are your phone accesories plans going on?

Any way I am very much interested in this phone accesories business tell me more.where do u buy the accesories from? I am in the diaspora (Middle East-saudi arabia) but would like to know more.I have just inquired from some small dukas around here and I find they r selling accesories at vey cool prices not less than 100% return. (Items bought at a price of 2-3 being sold at 7-10 ...mobile pockets,mobile chain holders etc) I am wondering how the business is like back home (been away almost 7 years now). I can b ur supplier na will never dissapoint u. wasemaje??

@ Chaka and Xtina,i'm also using my dad's land,this reduces alot of costs; leasing,equipment,security,technical advice....
But i'm looking forward to buying my own piece,at least 5 hectares (dont read 5 acres) by December2010,and irrigate my way to financial prosperity.

@ chaka,xtina et al,i source my products from Dubai,imported by a friend who is not a so regular flier.
The accesories include,but are not limited to,memory cards,flash disks,phone covers and china phones.
My main market are campus students from uon,ku (before the closure) and jkuat.
The returns are modest though i tend to think things will get better if i get a more reliable and somehow cheaper source.
Its not a bad venture.

Have you noticed the large number of ads,some from google adsense,with this online jobs claiming to pay mostly anything between $ 200-700 daily for data entry. Since last year,most of them have constantly been say they only need '200' people and i have always been the 'lucky' last person to log-into the website before the application period is over!#'/£¥??
One website is ezeejobs.net.
Is it just me or have you also noticed the ads.?
I'm highly doubting their credibility and intentions. Lets hope its not another scam out there to fleece hunger-stricken and corruption-ravaged kenyans their hard earned money.

@Xtina,here's how got the parcel. I convinced dad that that if the business picks up,he'll never fork out a coin for my upkeep (education mostly),i would learn on and from the venture,offer assistance in management of the farm when he's away,apply school work and give him a 'reward' from my returns. Worth noting,i had won my mum's support and she did influence dad. Importantly,i had already planted in the nurseries and prepared some bit of land before seeking his authority -' Tell the world what you intend to do,but first show it'

@Alfa,low demand in some months,very stringent hygene and food safety measures (if they find a strand of human hair in,say french beans,you are in trouble),delayed payments,high infrastructural capital outlay and,but not always,stiff competition.
Above all remember that obstacles are what we see when we take our eyes away from our goals.

fellow skerians,
the going has been great.
i ventured into IT,Agriculture & Hotel industries. Tidy returns have made there way into my bank acount.
Yesterday,I even gave a tithe of a respectable amount,five figure,to say the least.
