....Kpc noticed the leakage many hours before the tragedy....it was quite probable that some kenyans would siphon...imho the mngt should have used the media to ensure that pple evacuate before the tragedy....

While this is highly regretable don't you think we are being a tad too insensitive towards the slum dwellers? Do we expect them to express/view/analayse situations like we do!!!

I think it's unfair to measure these using the same yardstick without putting into context there situation et al. As many of us are typing away, making descions, analysing 000's of reports, wondering 'where' to go for lunch, most poeple in the slum either spent the whole night guarding our 'gated communities' having withstood the cold and the occassional insults from us from maybe taking too long to open the gate, or spent the day queing at Express/Transami hoping something will give in today and maybe just maybe today he willl get that Ksh 200 that will be enough to buy some food for the 2 year old daughter or that extra jumper she has been wanting cox of the extra cold nights etc so if some were indeed walking back home after having spent the entire day queing at industrial area with no luck as they walked home pondering/hoping maybe tomorrow will be better vis a vis (where most of us thinking who will win between Barca V Ac Milan or you want to put an order to your broker tomorrow for XYZ) and then all of a sudden there is well 'free fuel' what do you think will be their next cause of action??

Its sad to say the least but please guys some sensitivity please..

Now that govt has come out saying it shall compensate those who were affected by this tragedy... I can only hope that the funds to carry out this exercise will b availed soonest.

My concern is how soon will that soon be... especially with the knowledge of what these Mpigs did the other day still fresh in our minds???

Highly likely, this hospitals have become extortionists. It however feels bad that church spornsore hospitals are that greedy.

Whenever you go to such like hospitals they normally ask whether you have a cover or not. As a slum dweller, unfortunately to them, it means alot different to being a 'resident of runda'. Aslum dweller to them is like a liability as they will have to write off the debt unless someone pays for them. That is not all, a friend of mine visited a hospital and payed cash for a common disease. on going back for the same on a 'cover' he realised the bill was three times te previous bill.

Tafakari.

Kenya Pipe line should accept full responsibility. I'm sure they have insured against such though I don't know if any insurer will pay as they knowingly discharged fuel into open drains and sewer lines.

And they should be telling the public what measures they are taking to prevent such spillage from leaving their plant untreated and flammable.

When it rains it pours. There is still the small matter of the award of KES 4.6b in favour of KK that KPC has been desperately trying to have reversed. And now this.

Was it overflow from their tanks or a blown jointing (Gasket) along the pipeline?....If it was an overflow,NEMA should be all over their sorry selfs for discharging pollutants to a live river.

KPC should not be blamed for the fire...

reason...KPC made an attempt some time back to get the dwellers from the line to acceptable zone of safety, only to be met with hostile resistance...

what do you mean..they knowingly discharged fuel into open drains and sewer lines.? i thought this was an accidental leak from a bust pipe!!
...besides, the presence of a safe alone does not signify that there is money inside...
