@Bwenyenye. Same story here. My balance was deducted in full by the previous employer only to later be told that I has a balance and had already been charged penalties worth Kshs 90K!!! I went over and paid the principal amount plus interest and they waived the penalties. Got a clearance cert like PAP.

The scariest thing for me is to have my name with the new credit reference bureaus. If this happens to you, you can forget about getting a loan form anyone in Kenya. Like the rest I say watu walipe madeni.

Good people,

I visited the site and realised that 'malenge ni mboga!' The guys have nyoroshad me penalties mbaya. Honestly I forgot that I had a small balance. Now the amount has doubled. Can they overlook the penalties if i pay what I owed in lumpsum? Any experiences?

That's actually the policy. Simply do them a cheque for the original balance. You can email your account supervisor for furthter information.

@Maich, can you confirm that 100% bwana! If I pay back the original amount + interest in lumpsum, the penalties are waived??

My original amount was 25K, but now I owe 110k because of these penalties:

jul 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=36000
aug 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=5000
sep 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=5000
oct 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=5000
nov 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=5000
dec 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=5000
jan 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=5000
feb 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=5000
mar 2010 Interest/Rep PENALTY=5000

Asante sana Maich and everyone, Y'all just saved me 70 grand. My balance is now 0.

i hadnt paid mine for a while because i dint have source of income, but when i started i paid half the bill in lumpsome and in their own wisdom they still charged me a fine!!!! i had just paid what would have taken 2 years to recoup through their monthly deductions at once but they still punished me. I am now avoiding their charges by paying a little every month and plan to clear the balance by December this year

I have been making irregular payments. I have accrued some penalties. Now...if i make annual lump sum payments, instead of monthly payments,i wont get the penalties waived? Enyewe malenge ni mboga...

Maybe you make annual lumpsum payments IN ADVANCE. If a monthly payment is due, and you do not settle it, they will add Ksh 5000 penalty for that month. Every July, they also add Ksh 1000 (I don't know why).

If you pay the balance and interests in one lumpsum payment, they will waive all the penalties.
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

Watu walipe HELB.

I cleared mine in Feb and I think HELB are more efficient than you give credit to them.

I got a certificate and am now HELB FREE.

They charge 1000/= ledger fees per year.... that's peanut to me given all the infrastructure in place to manage the accounts.

I think this is a good move.
People seeking leadership positions should be ready and willing to lead from the front in all aspects.
