I thought one would only err when translating any of the native languages to English. But now, I heard it on national radio, that someone was not allowed to "stand" for an election.

There are some people from somewhere in Kenya that I know, who would wreck havoc by replacing all the l's with r's.

The speaker is talking politics, but the audience only hears airplanes with landing lights on!

maybe he/she meant he litrary "stood up" (kusimama) so that he can be erected.

wazuans, google STAND FOR ELECTION. It is correct English. Even the British parliament and press use it. I guess we got it from them since we did not have democracy before they colonized us. For the avoidance of doubt you stand for election as governor while you run for governors seat. Both are correct!
