Report to the police.Get an abstract.Go to the nearest regional KRA office with the abstract,pin cert,I/D and for good measure,carry the original logbook.Apply for the number (Get a receipt).Can't tell of the current cost but the last time,it cost me 3K for both plates.
NOTE:
If it's the rear plate,mark it as "SQUARE" on the application form and if it's the front,mark it as "OBLONG" (I don't know where they got that funny sounding name.It scares customers... )...If you don't get it right at this stage,you might find yourself with plates of the same colour and shape.

njunge is quite right, its 1100 for a single plate and its takes roughly 2 wks so they say, hope ur reg no is not hizi mpya i.e kbm etc otherwise u'll need an abstract from flying squad

Shouldn't we tender out this number plate printing business to private sector? After all, even our currency notes are printed by private companies... what is more valuable, bank notes or vehicles?

The idea of using untrained, unwilling, unpaid and unmotivated prisoners for such an important job is simply ridiculous!

You miss the point: I DO NOT want prisoners making the number plates. they have been doing it for eons and they are not getting any better... in fact they are getting worse.

I am sure that if this was put on open tender, we can get much better quality plates at a much lower cost and with much more security features.

The prisoners can find something else to do with their time.

Well i went to KRA transport section and they have new rules
1. Flying squad abstract
2. Tape lift of engines & chassis number from Flying squad
3. Original Log book
4. Copy of Log book
5. Letterhead & reason explaining the circumstances of the loss " i dont get why they need another letter when i have an abstract
5. Affidavit
