I am looking for a child around 5 - 8 years. I have always dreamt of starting a children's home (that does not rely on donors.) However, since i don't have a lot of cash now, i think i can start with a one child and live with him in my house. I am a single man so i think i can start with a boy. Has anyone ever gone through this route? All advice is welcome.

I may not be qualified to say much on that, but my take is that you get a wife and the two of you decide.
Suppose you pick the boy and your wife (when you get one) does not support the idea? What happens to the high hopes of the boy!!!

do you want to start the children's home as an investment? if not please move this thread to the right section, probably Club SK. wazuans may misjudge your intentions if it remains here.
It is a curious fact that of all the illusions that beset mankind, none is quite as curious as that tendency to suppose that we are mentally and morally superior to those who differ from us in opinion.

Yes you can adopt. There are some organisations which assist in this and my buddy tells me that there are very many kids in orphanages. I understand you have to be 25yrs older than the kid so subtract this from your age and see the maximum age you can adopt.

Get a life man. Do you have any idea what you want to get yourself into. As earlier adviced get a wife!!!!! Kwani umekosa bibi? Whats this, the motherly instincts in you...... I dont think so..... get a life man! There are other ways to help boys without living with them in your house. I believe a man who cant even get a woman has very little to offer a little boy in his house who is not even related to him in any way.
They must find it difficult....... those who have taken authority as the truth, rather than truth as the authority.

Thanks for the advice. As for the wife, i just don't think i can stay with a woman who can't stay with another person's child. I have heard of such women and i shudder at the thought of having such a woman as my wife.
