Djinn,
Othaya-Nyeri-Nyahururu-Nakuru would be cheaper in terms of fuel and time....Caution though.Avoid Nairutia-Ndaragwa forest stretch after 3PM.

Maragua to Naks? Thika-Fly route should be shorter....and smoother....and flatter....hence quicker n cheaper.

@Toxicity - they HAVE started work on the Eldoret - Malaba section - H Young have spilt a lot of equipment at various places (I think about 5 spots are on going). I'd say they are moving faster than the guys doing Mau-Summit - Kisumu Road.

Thanks djinn I just hope those two roads move asap
@guka with ur vast knowledge on roads , after a company constructs a road is there nomally any arrangment for maintenance for a period of time?

@Toxicity,
I am not in the know but i guess that once a road has been comissioned and handed over to the ministry of roads,the contract ends and therefore the onus of repairing the road is in the ministry.I stand to be "collected".

@Njung'e, if I may step in to collect you offer some cralification...my understanding is that the government should retain abt 10% of the contract value for abt 3-6 months as a security in case the road works are not up to standard and in case some repairs are needed to make it up to par. i think the same premise goes for building contractors - esp when it comes to the foundation, waterproofing, etc...things that can look OK today and give you hell in a month...

I think it depends on how the CONtract was structured. I knw of a CONtracter who has to maintain a certain road 4the nxt 5yrs. I also stand to be collected.

@Djinn,
I passed by Kapsabet town from Eldoret on my way to BGM.The longer route you would say but i had to catch a friend of mine from high school days.I decided to use the shorter route to KK and see what i unearthed.I can tell you this country has some cheap and majestic holiday places.This retreat is smack in the middle of KK forest.Tee off to the right at Chepsegon(??) (18 kilometres from Kapsabet town on your way to Chavakali and turn right to a fairly good earth road) ...Didn't venture into the forest as i have serious phobia for snakes.I am told the forest is home to many snake species including the horned Gabon viper...oops!...But the birds,butterflies,monkeys (I saw some monekeys with blue ballssmile.Didn't have much time but i guess this is what they refer to as great blue Turaco ),are a sight.

Anyone with updates on:
1 - Mau Summit-Kericho section
2 - Kericho - Los Kogelos section
3 - Eldoret - Turbo (some road works had started mid August)

Thanks.

@Njung'e - now is when I am seeing your narrative about blue balled monkeys! eish! I'm thinking if Mau Summit-Kericho is no good, and with Eldoret Malaba now being ripped up for work, I might got via the scenic forest with blue balled primates...

Mau Summit - Kericho under construction, very rough diversion from Chepseon to Kericho town.
Kericho -Los Kogelos, ok, motorable.

Mau Summit to kericho diversion is very rough if u travelling to kericho from nairobi and u dont have any business in Nakuru nor naivasha i prefer the narok Road...the diversion is like 25kms but using it feels like 50kms!

Thanks @Djinn and @Njung'e , i hope the Contract were such that the Constructing company would give something like an after sales service for them to do a good job! like the stretch between Salgaa and mau summit i noticed that the the road is already sinking thanks to the loaded trailers!...

There is something called the defects liability period. The Contractor is liable for any defects occurring after the end of the construction for a period of time most usually a period of 365 days. The client retains 10% of the total project cost for this. If the product is in good condition the money is refunded at the end of this period. I don't know whether the GOK enforces this

Who has recently used the Nyeri - Nyahururu road? What is the state of the road, especially the 40km stretch from Nyahururu?

@Thimioni, how long on average, speeds maxing at 110kph, do you think the stretch would take, given that there's an incomplete stretch?

What is the state of the road linking South Kinangop and its environs to the Nairobi-Naivasha highway?
