The name university isn't a must.....A good example is the prestigious MIT.....Massachusett Institute of Technology. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Only that KCA stands for Kenya College of Accountancy. Now read the whole name out loud! @Ms Mkenya - Ever heard of MIT -Massachussets Institute of Technology? One of the finest universities in the world! No 'university' anywhere in the name. Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

I see nothing wrong with that.when it becomes a fully fledged uni it shall be mombasa poly university,to retain its identity as a technical institute. Hope is not a strategy

And there is also one of the universities Baba Jimmy attended - London School of Economics [and Political Science]. But I get your point. Marketing to some uninformed Kenyans might be a problem if they don't see the word "University"! Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Yani you guys have just discovered that Msa Poly and Kenya Poly have become university colleges [with silly names to boot]? Don't you know that they are almost graduating their pioneer degree students? When the names were published about 3 years ago, I remember asking in the media whether these are polytechnics, or universities or colleges. if they had asked me I would have named them respectively Kenya university college and Mombasa University college... and when they finally get their charters, they would simply drop the "college" tag to become The Kenya University and the Mombasa University, or better still, university of Kenya and University of Mombasa - to keep in line with the traditional format when naming universities after a place Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Lolest! wrote:I dont like this trend. Where will we train diploma holders in technical fields? This question has been asked many times since Egerton college was take over by UoN in the mid 1980s... and JKCAT by KU in the early 1990s. The answer is that the colleges taken over do still continue offering diploma programmes only that they are no longer examined by KNEC, but by the university senates. Go to Egerton and JKUAT and you will find many diploma courses still running. Same with the sily sounding Polytechnic University Colleges. However, I am not sure whether they maintain the numbers of students in the diploma courses as before the upgrading. Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

@Mukiha, To add to your sentiments, all former technical schools were turned into technology institutes and they are quite many.If i may remember, there is Kitale Tech,Kaiboi,Rift Valley (Eldoret),Sigalala,Kisumu,Mawego,Kabete,Nairobi,Thika,Meru,Nyeri and Machakos tech...Informaly,there was Masaai Tech......That's quite a number given that initially, there were only two Tech institutes...I stand to be collected. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
