Jammas, lets kill this doze of diamond engagement rings. There are better ways to get engaged bila this thing.

When I was in the thick of things to get hitched, the biggest challange was balancing the wedding budget. Then I was asked when the engagement ring is coming. It was hard enough to fork out 4-500k for the wedding (for a young man to fork out that cash is a challenge)!!

By the way,it is true that this ring will cost you at least 4 times what the wedding ring will cost. The funny thing, the ka diamond or whatever stone you have sometimes falls out never to be seen again.

Dude-can't recommend a duka, but some free advice. Sit down, budget for dowry, wedding, your 1st home, then and only then think about the engagement ring. U may end up saying if she won't marry u without one, akae. And watch a movie called priceless.

Anasazi,If Cash is tight forget about the engagement ring unless you intend to get married in the next five years.
When you get down to budgeting for the real thing and also the life after the wedding you will need every penny that you can lay your hands on.
In between the wedding show and samantha bridal expo uko na real problems the budget could be anything. If her relatives and yours watch those things, brace yourself for an overinflated budget
If an engagement ring is what will show your love and commitment to her, then i must be missing something. Buy a good wedding ring when the time comes.
Be practical and i think engagement rings are overrated and overhere

@Anasa....... check out the shops at Diamond Plaza in parklands but if u can get one from outside kenya u can either save cash or get better quality

@others,the guy didnt say he has issues with cash, mnaharibia mtu hapa, every chic wants it all, from the flowers, the rings and etc.

Thanks guys, this is some sensible advise. I put down some numbers for the wedding, and those numbers were numbing. Diamond sahau. Sichukui hio.

@Anasasi

Man,if you can't afford don't try. You start with engagement ring and end up making AG an option for your wedding!!

Be serious bwana ai!!! you must be good and dreaming. On a light note, are you dreaming about her? I mean the ideal her? Eheeeee Ms universe!!!!!!!!

Ananasi, good for the decision you made,go AG chambers. You can even request for a special one where a lawyer will come to your house and do everything and you will be left with original cert. it will cost less than 50k. Then tafuta jamaa in Goma give him like 200USD you will get the best uncut stone, tafuta goldsmith, akufanyie ring moja ambayo when in town you will be restricted on where you move,Moi avenue towards eastlands usahau. If in kenya you dont get a good goldsmith i have a guy in Kigali rwanda who can do it for you.....this is for real dude

life is an endless adventure

If you happen to pass through TZ they have a 'biashara street' of goldsmiths in Dar. You wont miss something good... at a good price. Chances of being gongwad are almost nil. But take a local who knows reputable shops with you.
But make sure you measure your honey's finger first so they can adjust to the correct size before you collect!

I think you should only get a good engagement ring once you have discussed the dowry issue with your future in-laws. Btw In Kenya being engaged doesn't guarantee you anything.
