Just saw this very interesting article on the Daily Nation.

It goes to show the numerous issues that need to be brought under control in Kenya before we can even think of gainful development.

Alarming: "The population is growing faster than the economy"

In the 80's and early 90's, Moi's government with World Bank funding funded a lot of Family planning campaigns. That is when the likes of Family Planning Association Of Kenya (FPAK) were established. You could see posters of 'Well Planned Family is Happy Family' in Dispensaries all over the country.

Then, HIV/AIDS emerged, and stole the show, both attention and funding for public awareness campaigns. They have done well, and stats show trends in Kenya are declining.

But then, people forgot all about family planning! We need to tackle them both. The are infact related.....somehow.

Ive seen comments in the articles with people blaming the government. We should stop this bad habit as Kenyans. Sirkal sirkal all the time?
I for one support this. Not like the china one child policy but not having six children while living in a 1-room house then blaming the gok for not being able to provide enough.

@Dash, while I agree that at a personal level one has to plan his oe her life, the government's policies and attention unfortunately also plays big role when it comes to masses, especially in addressing unemployment, poverty and illiteracy. This is a global problem, not unique to Kenya. http://news.yahoo.com/un...en-study-041924411.html

In some countries like Germany however, the government is giving Germans bonuses and monthly stipends for every child born because theirs is an inverted pyramid population (Too few young and too many seniors).

@eco dont misunderstand me am NOT defending the gorv. I understand fully the role they are play in terms of policies for the population. Look at it this way, a couple in lets say a slum have 3kids and are already struggling even just feeding themeselves leave alone the kids. They get a fourth and at the clinic are advised about family planning which is fair priced and sometimes free at free clinics. The couple refuse because of tradition/religion/laziness e.t.c Two years later on their fifth child, they are interviewed by a t.v station for a documentary and the couple keep saying how the gorv. is not doing enough until they are unable to feed the five children, and while saying that they are still not on any family planning method
