@Mukiha get your facts right please.

Here is the formula from the NSE booklet I downloaded in 2009:

I[t] = I[t-1] * 20th-root-of ({P[1 t]/P[1 t-1]} * {P[2 t]/P[2 t-1]} * .... * {P[20 t]/P[20 t-1]})

Where:

I[t] = index at time t
I[t-1] = index at time t-1
P[j t] = price of stock j (i.e., 1, 2, 3, 4, .... 20) at time t

P[j t-1] = price of stock j at time t-1

You see it is just an average of prices. There is no mention of capitalisation.

Unfortunately, this booklet is not available in the new-look NSE website, otherwise I'd have given you the link.

Now go check you facts and let's compare.

@Mukiha since you are an elder i will save you from the bashingsmile you need to read further http://www.bloomberg.com...uote?ticker=KNSMIDX:IND
I'm afraid Bloomberg is wrong on this one.

Since you are mathematically knowledgeable, why not test the formula I have given above. You will see that it yields the correct index for a given day.

@the deal;

The question of whether the NSE-20 is capitalisation weighted or not is still not resolved.

You insisted it is; I said it is NOT.

You referred me to Bloomberg to support your position; I gave you the formula used in calculating the NSE-20 {thereby proving Bloomberg wrong...ahem!}

Did you ever test the formula?
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Copying & pasting! Still i have not received a response on the divisor's base period. Not everything is as easy as it always seems...DJIA! Bro at times just stand by what you believe with facts & not taking on your heels at an iota of questions on your ideas....

Wow! What a thread. If the emotions here were graphed they'd look like the CBOE VIX index at the moment...

The Wazua admin should lock updates to this thread to allow for a cool off period just like stocks on a volatile selloff.

What beef exactly??
I merely pointed out that if you feel like posting information about a company then your analysis should be better than or at least at par with what my house boy would post... I mean where is the value???

Just saw this & thought of you bro. 'true merit is like a river the deeper it is the less noise it makes.' Reality is never ones own make belief. I rest my case using my chicken IQ Mr intelligent Media man. Btw the DJIA whose divisor you are so much trying to emulate as you state started as a simple arithmetic average as you did but has undergone adjustments & some have been towards making coninuity simple thus making a base period important. To some of us we'd love to know the day you picked your prices coz it will assist us in knowing when the divisor changes & not always the index as one affects the other & thus you might at times show a rise on the index when truthfully it might be a decline due to non-adjustment of your divisor. First start by making the divisor public coz others do that including DJIA.

Thanks man it was that simple. Hope you've already factored in KK's & BAT's corporate actions in your divisor! FYI i have followed the thread from day 1 & all i want are facts laid out for the sake of all of us!

wow the drama on this thread, lemme confess i have no idea what the index beef is all about, what matters to me is the company, is it cheap for me to buy so come on guys let's not send off @deal like that. Some of us have benefited from his analysis which is easy to read and understand and give the guy some credit at least he is consistent with his contributions on this forum.

Wazua admin don't lock updates... one year from now this beef will be the good old days
