Could Airtel finally acquire Access Kenya?

Clearly birds of a weather flock together. I would imagine that Airtel should target a bigger player like KDN or Jamii Telecom. May be KDN due to the Merali factor between the two firms. Thes two fibre providers have a much larger fibre network in urban areas and even between towns giving competitive advantage over Access Kenya. Now that Safaricom partnered with Jamii, it would have been more strategic for Airtel to partner with KDN. I honestly dont see the Access - Airtel partnership providing long term headroom for their growth; but thats just me.

Actually Airtel or former companies that operated under that license before Airtel used KDN as their back-bone. it could be an issue of cost cutting or redundancy, inclination is to cost cutting based on their model...... or better still AKs cables could be running in places that give advantage to airtels topological connectivity thereby saving on purchasing equipment and paying expensive costs for STMs(1-4) frequencies to CCK...... I understand Merali sold most of his shares in KDN am not sure but am told he has no controlling interests in KDN any more SA people took it over

merali has sold out of both KDN & Airtel/Zain/Celtel/KenCell if I am not mistaken

A lady friend of mine managing an airtel regional office has just told me that talks are at an advanced stage.....i read somewhere (a newspaper ad for a mag featuring access manager or something)that access will only sell at a price of 19 bob??.....

Any wazuan willing to confirm this info.....

Yep, some Access manager said they will sell only at 19 or thereabouts. Ama it was just a deflection? But if any takeover does materialise, share will shoot up and QW will be happysmile

What I'm personally interested in are the rates for 3G in the upcoming launch next month (ama wataextend tena? If they are not considerably cheaper than the green option, I guess they can kiss our butts
If they are cheaper, hata Jamani atahama...smile
Who will yu acquire? They seem dead to me.. Do they have any plans for 3G? I thought teenagers (who do seem their target) also need fast internet, and not only cheap calls

now that the gova said that they will give 4g lincence to a consotium ( read less cost)i thought this was a golden opportunity for yu to up its data game..

Well, they are so many factors to look at than a telco just saying they have gone 3G, and cheap is relative.... this game was won by the greens kitambo sana, wewe na wengine wenye nia kama hiyo hamta hamasmile you are stuck in there... When it comes to LTE, the greens are still miles away... someone is hurting and will close shop its only a matter of time ...and as the rates come down the greens will also bring it down and this will bite someone remember what happened to MNP? wazua wangapi walihama by MNP ?

Exactly, if the greens lower some of the the other operators will close or not rollout the service and this will push the price up again. Check out the situation of price wars in India... someone has realized s(he) cannot be philanthropic... these things come at a cost... cheap is always expensive, get value for money
