Are there different "models"? Am looking for quality too. How much should i be looking at? Where can i find them around this town?

'box' guitar can cost u anything from 5k (at some Tuskeys) to about 15k Yamaha model(check the choice ones at Recordez, 2nd Flr Yaya)

U can also check a few shops along Luthuli Avenue, as you go toward River Road.

Electric guitars are a bit more expensive

NKT!!!Cheap is expensive for a guitar. 5kShame on you Make me undersatnd that unless its a toy for the kids.

@ Wendz,

Try Credible Sounds on Moi Avenue, they stock quality guitars and make sure its a Yamaha. Recordez have exactly the same but quite pricey.

All the best!

I pity your kids!!! Hopefully most of them will have moved out by then. Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

Under the Geneva convection, it is considered torture for parents like you [who know they can't sing] to sing for more than 5 minutes a day more than 3 metres from the bathroom when the kids are in the house. You have been forewarned.

On a serious note though, the next time you go for Mugithi - no guitar in most Ohangla joints - walk to the one man guitar and ask for tips. You will be surprised how helpful he might end up being. You can actually pass by a joint you know they play live music purposely to ask about the guitar.

Asking the fellows in a shop is not the best idea especially when you don't know much about what you are buying. almost always they will be pushing a certain product because it has a bigger margin, it's not moving, it's old/dead stock, they are getting kickbacks from the suppliers etc. You need first hand information from elsewhere.
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

If he is a good guitar player, get him a 12 string Accoustic Yamaha guitar... after that run from him very far...We dont want those stories of ' a friend of mine but a friend a guitar...'

Wendz, get a trained music teacher and go with him/her to a music shop for guidance. They will be able to tell which is made in china etc.... will also explain to you which one has what features for you to be able to decide. Also if the music shops realize they are selling to a "lay person", you are likely to pay more. Happy shopping.
Lord, thank you!

Look for a brand called "Mitello" from Japan...fairly good sound quality, decent wood (wood is EVERYTHING with a guitar - I think mine is rosewood and something else). Avoid some Chinese ones, sometimes the neck is rather broad and the frets not very even. Kshs 8-12k

Check a music shop in Soin Arcade, Westlands - Ground floor. Can't quite recall the name. Good pricing. Got my Yamaha box from there 4 yrs ago at 6,500/=.. at the time rates for the same in town were about 10K on average.

Lakini mambo ya kuhustle slowed me down, the guitar has become more of a trophy hapo kwa nyumba.. :)
