Isnt there a road that cuts across from Thika to join the Nbi-Nakuru road somewhere near Kimende ??

Very correct.I was mildly amused some years back to find that we have Githumu on either side of Aberdares.As the tale goes,this foot road has been in existence for many years.Djinn has a choice in the Murang'a-Kiria-ini-Othaya-Mweiga Nyahururu-Subukia-Nakuru road depending on how close he is to Murang'a town.

Indeed there are two roads joining Thika town (highway) with the A104 highway.The first goes over the Thika round about west to Kiawabuga,through Gatamaiyo forest-Magumu and the flyover just before Kinungi.....The other access is at Ruiru,west via Kimathi,Githunguri and joins A104 at uplands.The former is fairly accessible but......thugs in the forest....don't try even though it's the shortest.

You have a choice of three roads.It's a pity that the Outspan-Geta road (Over the Aberdares0 is yet to take shape due to NEMA concerns.It certainly will be the shortest route to A104 via Engineer to Naivasha (52 Kilometres from Outspan to Geta Gate).Hope this helps.

@Mpenzi - I was kinda looking both at saving on the distance and exploring new roads - if I come up to Thika and cut across, it may not offer much savings in distance and I'd have to double back part of the distance I went. But I will keep that on the table for now.

Quick update:

Thika Road - overpass at Museum now open (for those that live not in NBI) - towards Forest Road - but you still need to make a detour behind Stima Plaza/Inoorero Centre to rejoin Forest Road. From Pangani still some diversions. Good sections opened up between Muthaiga and GSU. Kasarani overpass opened up. A bit risky towards Githurai - lanes not marked and drivers untamed.

Did not do the Nyeri-Nakuru detour

Mau Summit to Malaba - same old lumpy sections near burnt forest. Eldoret to Turbo - the road is getting worse - pot holes. Lost my grille somewhere along that strech (which led to interesting questions from the Ug police who alluded to a hit and run....hmmm). Same "staircase" at Kipkarren. Some sections between Webuye and Bungoma are under repair - short and very passable murram diversions, not more than 1km each.

Closer to Malaba border the road is just as lumpy as near burnt forest/elburgon.

Malaba-Kampala - Same old...same old cops. Around Kampala they have built some bypasses so no need to cut through the city if going to certain surburbs or out of town (Mbarara, Fort Portal).

Kampala- Kyenjojo (40km from Fort Portal) - more sections have been opened up - really good roads from the halfway point albeit dangerous thanks to speeding buses and trucks from DRC.

Lost a grille, a wiper (in a very heavy downpour) and the ability to close the co-driver's window.
