if you have the resources to cover all of your needs and some of your wants, plus the ability to save for the future, then you are in middle class, i.e you are neither rich nor poor. Middle class isn't just about income and spending. Health, education, home ownership, political freedom, security -- are directly linked to the strength of the middle class. You are also automatically in middle class by virtue of your profession (academic, accountant, lawyer, engineer, politician and doctor etc). "..I am because we are. "― Ubuntu, Umtu,

if you cover all your needs you'd probably be in the upper class!! The middle class is the salivating class, they eat, drink, afford fair to good healthcare and education for heir kids but are still wishing they had more money to lie in Karen or buy that Chrysler.

I once said!!!! @mcdoba this was original? I think there is a middle class. That grumbling group that can live in a self contained hse probably afford a car and better than average health care and education. They can in most cases afford an insurance, pension and some investments.

What do you call the class of young men that are living off their mom's money and "managing" (stealing) mom's real estate, collecting dad's rents, pretending to be rich, always in upscale clubs, restaurants and bars showing off, having people fetch faggis for them, talking big, drinking Heinekin and Johnny Mtembezi, driving older Mercedes or tricked-out Mitsubishis with the stereo way too loud, always bragging about the "mitas" that they have invested in the NSE or real estate, starting businesses that they cannot or don't know how to run, always making excuses for what they actually "do", that refuse to finish university and refuse to take on a steady job (even though their family practically GIVES them jobs and school fees), that you haven't seen in two weeks because they "have been in Dubai or Guangzao" and must have the latest, greatest phone?
...And are always hitting their siblings or in-laws up for KsH for the latest, greatest "investment opportunity".
Best,
Hill

Hill (or is it Kirma). Quite blunt....but remember if it can survive three generation, it becomes aristocratic. "..I am because we are. "― Ubuntu, Umtu,

Being middle class is relative to the standard of living one attains rather than salary etal. I would consider any one who affords to have decent basic needs and/ without comforts to be middle class. Democracy does not belong to the dead

Hill Boss, Those fall squarely in the 'Wannabe' syndrome. One can tell exactly how it ends... Kirima style theatrics. I Think Therefore I Am

African coloner. Do you mean a person with a 100k budget to spend on rent or total income. African parents don't know how to say sorry.. the closest you will get to a sorry is a 'have you eaten'

Not Karen or Runda that's for sure. Unless you are talking 100k Euros. Not Upper Hill unless you have a roommate or spouse making the same 100k Ksh as you. But you could swing Buru Buru, South C, or South B for that kind of coin... or commute to Ongata Rongai. If I were making that kind of money, I'd go for Buru Buru. Easy close shopping, it's close to the city, there are a ton of high-tech matatus with WiFi, power ports, heated and cooled massaging seats, and on-board manicures , the phase 4 ladies are beautiful, and the Buru Buru sheng/slang will make you cool and trendy when you speak it anywhere in the world that Kenyans reside. A T-Shirt that says "I'm from Phase Four" will get you into any Kenyan bash in Atlanta, Boston, London, Columbus, Kansas City, or Dallas- that's a $10 to $20 savings every time you wear it under a sport coat or blazer. Best, Hill

I've seen people living in Kile and Upper Hill on salaries of just slightly above 100k per month.

Not possible. 100K translates to about 70k after tax and this is the rent for a 2 brm apartment in these areas. Kwani they do not have other financial needs other than rent Don’t cry over spilled milk…it could have been beer!

You can live in Runda or Karen on 100k (Kes not euros) salo if really all you want is to live there. But then it has to be in the SQ, becuase the going rate of SQs in these areas is 20 to 30k per month! The laudable is more often than not rendered laughable by overclaim
