The greatest benefit out of the recession abroad will be cheaper oil and commodities for net importer regions like our EAC!!

Cheaper global commodities means less pressure on EAC currencies hence they'll strengthen. Finally, all the imported inflation should reduce SIGNIFICANTLY!!

On the otherhand, tea,coffee,tourism,horticulture will feel pressure from a strong shilling.

Industrial & Manufacturers will be the largest benefactors of cheaper imported inputs. GDP growth will be in high gear.

My friends... Kenya does not have oil [well, I hope we strike it!] so it is Uganda & South Sudan who will benefit from 'cheap' oil but where Kenya benefits is from lowered transport costs & we can sell 'shovels' the Ugandans & South Sudanese.

Singapore does not have oil but is richer than Malaysia on a Per Capita basis. Why? Singapore supplies stability, good education & financial services...
