Now now now now! just to add on this, its the people of the region who encourage the inhabitation of this jigger thing yet knowing well that their level of dirt can be counted as very clean in Turkana et. al.

Now, on the census thing, how was it carried out? Or, its another strategy of asking for foreign aid.

I recently went to a Jigger eradication campaign organised by Ahadi Trust.

The situation is very serious on the ground, the a whole community turned up for the jigger removal exercise: The elderly, Children and their parents, toddlers on their mothers back, preteen children were all infested with Jiggers. It was heart wrenching to see a child with no nails on all toes as they have all been "eaten" by jiggers.

As much as it is lack of hygiene, laziness or indifference to the Jiggers; its a sad situation.

IMHO; Ahadi trust and other Jigger organisations should change their tactics; the Publicity Stunt i experienced did nothing for the Jigger victims- on the said date,; the function begun at around 11.oo am and till 3 pm all we experienced were speeches from anybody who had a title; the Jigger removal exercise took an hour then all cars left ( the models in a chopper) after a sumptuos lunch at the MP's house; leaving the victims Sad

They should go to schools, ensure all the kids are treated and then the school left with enough resources to ensure that any re infestation is treated early.

Homes should also be fumigated and the community advised to sweep and sprinkle water on the madhouses (this prevents the loose soil which is a haven for jiggers. Houses should also be plastered with the Cow dung mixture to ensure the walls and floors are compacted.
Otherwise all the media attention does little for the victims; it only leads to fat Bank accounts!
