Not sure of the painting. Havent reached there yet.

As for tiles I have seen bathroom tiles ranging from 1,500/- plus (T&C) to as little as 350/- for a 37 tile packet (20cmx20cm) or 1.48SqM per packet.

I actually went with a whole seller to accompany them buy tiles at some underground godown on Kijabe st and was amazed at how much money is made in the distribution process. I found lovely tiles (shiny black with a giraffe skin texture) for 350/- per packet.
Also noted that they were selling shiny porcelain floor tiles at 600/- per piece (60cm x60cm x 10mm).

@ techies what does it mean when someone says good tiles? Is it the thickness or what?

Actually if youre taking more than 20 cartons you can buy from them. The wall tiles I know for a fact are chinese and not branded. Thats what lead me to ask what is a good tile? (the floor tiles are indian)

My philosophy which i stand to be corrected is that for things that are on the surface I will buy best value (chinese or not) but for whats inside the walls such as pipes and wiring ill not compromise but buy the best. My logic is why buy a toilet set for 4 times the price while it only lasts double the time. I would rather buy the cheaper one and replace it when the time comes. E.g. Twfords toilet sets are 28k while some simmilar ones from india are 7k (incl the wash hand sink and pedestal) is 7k at the godown.

Currently constructing. Any recommendations on good and reasonably priced suppliers for:

- Wooden (internal and main) doors
- Metal (security doors)
- Roofing (best material option for water harvesting)
- Windows and window grills
- Wall, and Flooring tiles (Bathrooms, Kitchen)
- Solar panels
- Parquet
- Kitchen countertops (granite, marble or laminate)
-
thanks.

There are several places along the lower part of Kijabe St. One of them is Prime Tiles which is next to a larger shop called China Tiles.

Disclaimer - I am not reccomending them just giving an observation.

@Swanky - Doshi on Msa Rd had a wide range of security doors. Check them out.

@Swanky,
Doshi are Ironmongers and will have probably the best prices for metal , but you may need to pick your fundi have him give you the required quantities and you buy that for him to make the window grills, gates etc.

The best material for harvesting water is corrugated iron sheets. I have heard that clay tiles need at least one or 2 rainy seasons before the water can be harvested but even then it may not be 100% safe for drinking.

I beg to differ, natural clay tiles are safer in the long run, the worst u can get is some clay sediment in the early days, and after all, its natural stuff that can't harm you.
