@jasonhill - A thief is a thief. And Kenyan thieves are among the worst! They leave no crumbs for anyone.

The difference between the West & Kenya is that at least they (or try) to do something about corruption. We do little or nothing.

How it was

We had all the land, all the gold, all the diamonds. They had all the Bibles.

How it is now

Now we got all the Bibles. They got all the land, all the gold, all the diamonds.

Somebody got jacked!

sparkly, don't worry.

If we were to ever have a 'revolution' like in Libya, the frozen assets would find their way to 'rebels'

VVS I understand where you are coming from, but the difference is that the West simply has more money (but not less corruption), because they stole it from the rest of the world, by "securing resources". And the crumbs that the west allows to fall off the table to the common man is only for two reasons 1. to keep the "dream" alive, the same dream that has Kenyans paying $250,000 for an education that they could get at home for $3000, and 2. To keep all us slaves alive so that we can keep working to make the rich richer and to pay taxes. There is absolutely no humanistic reasoning behind it.

Do you really trust the West more than China? I think that China has at least been honest and forthright about what its intentions are; they don't hide behind a fake religious and humanitarian mask.

My point was that it doesn't make sense to run from a lion into a bear. Our focus should follow the money and ensure accountability for it, instead of putting too much focus on people, personalities, and prosecution that whether its in the US or Kenya, aren't going to stick- rich people walk. That's just a fact of human life. It's not right, but its reality. The sideshow around it is just a distraction, while the money quietly slips away. If you want justice for a rich crook, first take the money away and reinvest it. Then, once they are poor, they might face justice.

Maybe.

Don't forget that the entire world is in financial crisis because of US's corrupt Wall Street. Do you see any Wall Street CEOs in jail? How about engineers of two unjust wars? Any ICC or UN blame going around for that?

SO what has been done by the West to right the ship?

Nothing except freeze overseas money. How exactly is such a move going to help Kenyans eat?

What will help Kenyans eat is by creating jobs. That should be the question asked of any person that gets any political or economic attention whether good or bad- How many jobs have you created?

Best,

Hill

@jasonhill - What the West is doing is much better than what Kenyans are doing. Nothing.

We now know of the stolen wealth (or some of it) of gichuru & okemo. Yet we have no idea how much mwau has?

Kenya: moi is filthy rich. Yet what has he done for Kenyans? How did he earn it?
USA: All prezzies publish tax returns & state the source of wealth. TRANSPARENCY.

Kenyan prezzies get fabulously rich AFTER they become prezzies. A full time job.

USA prezzies generally do not get rich while in office. Many were wealthy prior to becoming prez. Others after they leave (speaking, etc).

I can betcha that neither Obama, Clinton nor Bush is as rich as moi!

Please understand that the whole "publish tax return" thing is a joke and a farce, as are speaking engagement fees. All the wealth is hidden in bundles, donations to charities and NGOs, religious organizations, etc... I will tell you how they hide money offline (I don't want to encourage or teach further corruption). US Prezzies get wealthy before (usually being a congressperson or governor, who are outrageously, notoriously corrupt), during (the money is siphoned into donations and election financing, then siphoned out through consulting, travel, audio, video, and phony staff fees) and after (speaking engagements paid for by people who got favors done, such as defense contractors that make billions off of wars, pharma companies that make billions off of Afghan opium, and Oil companies that make billions from Iraqi and Libyan oil.)

The only difference is that they are discreet and it is quite systematic and accepted- K Street in DC is nothing but legitimized bribes.

I can't speak for Kenyan politicians, but if you feel that there is a lack of reinvestment, freezing the money in a French bank certainly isn't going to help.

I'd suggest changing the KACC conversation to be about the money and its reinvestment and allow the new CJ to focus on the judiciary.

If you want to play this game and have a chance to win, you have to know how the winning team plays (they cheat), and if you don't have a stomach for that, you are in the wrong business (business itself).

Best,

Hill

@jasonhill - Let's agree to disagree. IMHO, I would rather see 'stolen' cash frozen in some bank account than it is released to the crooks.

Hopefully, in the future the 'frozen' cash will benefit Kenyans. This has happened in many instances e.g. Marcos of Philippines.

What I am certain of is that merali, moi, gichuru will never return the stolen money. So that will NEVER benefit me as a Kenyan. Not now. not in the future!

Also, the 'freezing' also sends a message. The sad part is the crooks might send it to china instead!

I am with @jasonhill on this one. The worst thing to happen to Kenya is that the multi-billion dollar crooks shipped the proceedings out of Kenya, instead of re-investing. I also would have had very little issue if someone like Moi had used his money to build factories and stuff here in Kenya. Instead, they use it to enjoy high life in places like London and California!

Then guys why dont we just start taxing the proceeds of corruption?

At least then we will be in a position to hold the fat cats accountable by comparing what they stole to what they declared in their tax returns. Again taxation would discourage the practiced'oh!

HAHAHA Are you a beneficiary of stolen money? Why would you protect/defend the thieves otherwise?

If I leave Kenya, I would move to either Rwanda, Mauritius, Namibia or Botswana...

And that I believe is the only way to tackle corruption. As the beneficiaries of corruption never declare the income, by the time KRA would be through with the penalties and interest....

Yaani, France wanted to 'talk' to merali since 2008 but GoK has been protecting him!

http://the-star.co.ke/na...-hunt-merali-on-kencell

Why should Kenyans protect those who raped us? Of course, the beneficiaries (relatives, friends, cronies) of these corrupt individuals will support the crooks!

I don't have much faith in Tobiko but I hope others will go after merali, moi, biwott, etc!
