I need to put some money in a Fixed Account for 6 months. Which bank is offering the highest interest? Is there somewhere else eg insurance co.? Your help is highly appreciated.

My advice to you Is you take a stroll in these small muhindi banks from prime bank to fidelity they offer very competitive rates as compared to the big banks....some even can negotiate their rates upward depending on the amount you are depositing....(I hope you wont cause another rise in inflation with this deposit smile )
'......to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.' Colossians 2:2-3

I'm going to look for a chuta now. So far only Postbank looks promising with 2.25%.

Imagine BBK is 0.6%????d'oh!

Open a CDS Account with the central bank of Kenya.
http://www.centralbank.g...rities/cdsaccounts.aspx

Then subscribe to the 91 day or 182 day T/Bills.
Dont waste your time with fixed deposit accounts. Total rip off

Try this one. Very solid bank: http://www.imbank.com/KE/inner.asp?cat=ksfdacc

T-Bills currently pay about 9%; the only tricky part is that they are sold at a discount. Thus you get your interest immediately and wait for the principle to mature in 3 / 6 months.

E.g., if you bought a 100k Bill, yesterday, you have to cough up sh97,803 and wait for your 100k in October. Will you have the courage to hold onto the sh2,197 for three months?
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Absolutely - just dont get over ambitious. When filling in the forms, just make a non-competitive bid (which means you get the average interest rate). I think the bids which are rejected are those that quote a much higher interest rate.
