@drunkard, the current Horn of Africa drought situation is a NATURAL CALAMITY, unprecedented in 60yrs. Personaly, honestly, wouldnt blame the govt 4that. China n pakistan have had floods, Japan n Indonesia have had Tsunamis.......Right now, the TREASURY is obviously overloaded with issues....

People died last year too and the year before. Do you remember what happened last year? Maize scandle and what happened after that? Wanainchi ran to protect their tribesmen, what ashame!

Look at what you're doing, throwing in other countries' natural calamities to excuse our government, you said you've travelled so I expected you to have a different perspective. I grew up in a farm in Rift valley, I was involve in farming most of my childhood, so I will tell, politics/corruption have driven farmers off the cliff, both PNU and ODM, same people in the Government, so until Kenyans put this government and the future government to task, nothing will change!

people remember my people in ukambani lets not focus on north eastern only.I blame the perenial food problem in ukambani not on failed state but lack of local leadership.its a matter of time you will hear cries of hunger in agriculturally potential ukambiani.things are bad in this region.i have not yet ranked kenya a failed state but a country that cannot feed its people definitely fits a failed state status
2012 is here.Kenya is Ours.Be Part of The Peace Keeping Mission To Protect Our Motherland.Say No To Violence and Tribal Hatred .If you can read this, wewe ni mtu amesoma, usifikirie kama mtu hajaenda shule .Ni Hayo Tu

I am lost in trying to understand what Drunkard's point is. You have a fixed mentality that its the Govt failure and as such Kenya is a failed state.

You have been in US for 12yrs (Are you proud about it?). What can YOU do differently to change the situation rather than bash the govt and its people. In essence you should be the first to contribute through "Kenya for Kenyans" initiative by creating something similar for those of you in diaspora.

Don't attempt to lecture us with theories and political innuendos that we already know. Politics Kando we need Action, not negative sentiments about our homeland and our people.

Which route do you use when you come to Kenya from the US twice yearly?. Haven't you noticed that more international airlines are starting to fly to Nairobi. Nairobi is the most connected capital in Sub-Sahara Africa and you can connect to any city in the world from flights that originate here in our Motherland.

There is a disconnect in your arguments about our country. Maybe its coz you think visiting twice a year makes you better that somebody who visits once in 2 yrs.

Nothing personal though

..... I think we will never agree, there are a number of things I want Kenyan government to do for the people, which I am concluding most Kenyans don't care whether our government serve us or not, too bad, but trust me, living out of the country give you a very sober mind!

I am made to believe, odds are most of these Wazuans live in the city and don't have any idea how some people in forgotten part of Kenya lives, i am from the village, I went to school without shoes all through primary school. I didn't know what my government must do to me until I left the country now I have seen how other governments treat their people so no one can convience me that people can die of hunger year in and year out and I am suppose to not bash the government.

I am a Kenyan, I can't change that, I will never be an American whether I have a citizenship or not. I am not going to call myself Mark Davis or Jimmy Jones just coz I have lived in US long enough; I might not be as proud to be a Kenyan as Americans are proud to be Americans or british being british because the gov of Kenya and the ruling class and those who benefit from them are not making me proud, I felt embarrassed when Kenyans start slaughtering one another during the election and I feel embarrassed everytime there is news on TV that people are starving to dead in Kenya and the picture flash on TV, so I am mad and I have a right to be mad and all Kenyans from all walks of life should be mad!

Despite our difference in views. I think we should address the issues we identify as failing. Be it in the government, ourselves or the neighbor in a failed state. We can make Kenya what we need it be if we do something from bottom up. The politico class is kenyan, the government institution is Kenyan or in other words, you and me. Not them!
I wonder who's messing up our country coz everyone seems good in here.

jiulize - umesaidia Kenya na nini? ama u used our schools to give yourself an education so that you can bailout then criticize your motherland? agreed - we are not in the class of the US or UK (and won't be any time soon) - but if we don't love/like our country, no one else will! We don't have oil, gold and other resources that some of those countries have made themselves rich by but we are 10th largest economy in Africa beating even Zambia and its copper!

@drunkard, I dont get it. You are happy weve been rated a failed state just because you have issues with political leaders? Do you know what that means for us in terms of investments and tourism? Tuko na issues and we will deal with them but we are not a failed state!

@drunkard, let me ask - what does the American government do for its people - if it cannot even give them access to affordable medical care?
