As Kenya's middle class grows I admit the 'reasons' that Deacons gave in their prospectus make sense. It's all about 'aspirational' shopping. Yes, you can get much cheaper used stuff but the kids want the 'now' item which they see on TV/Movies in real time!
Anyway, I passed by some Deacons stores to have a look. Amazing! They were quite busy even when Kenyans are having it rough. Of course, profits may stall (like many other firms) in 2011-12 but the potential is there.
BTW, the Prospectus was all about the 'women' so Deacons does not really care about me!
