..... Kenya is a failed state no question about that, people keep saying that kenya is not like somalia, yes it is not, but still that doesn't pull it off the failed state list- it is like a kid getting and E with zero marks and an E with 30 marks, it is still an E.
what makes kenya a fail state?

1) It is only in fail states that people suspected for crime agaist its own people hold and still run the same government
2) It is only in fail states that people suspected and blacklisted for drug trafficking sits in parliament
3) It is only in failed states that people die of hunger year after year and still the leaders don't care to do anything.
4) Fail states are among the poorest countries in the world, kenya is among the poorest countries in the world
5) Fail states are among the most corrupt countries in the world, Kenya is among the most corrupt countries in the world

The USA must surely also be a failed state, going by the recent massive flooding that displaced thousands. Over 200yrs post independence, we still have homeless pple in America. America could be having the biggest drug problem in the world. World's most notorious terrorist, the younger Bush, roams free...........Failed state my smelly foot! Let me classify this article alongside those alarmist medical reports that scare us fm eating anything.

These are the kind of people who make kenyan worst, we're not talking of the USA, You become homeless in America by choice since, there are homeless are taken care of and the hungery get free food stamps, it is misplace to try to compare Kenya with USA.

Who defines what a failed state is?

This is from Wikipedia

The term failed state is often used by political commentators and journalists to describe a state perceived as having failed at some of the basic conditions and responsibilities of a sovereign government. In order to make this definition more precise, the following attributes, proposed by the Fund for Peace, are often used to characterize a failed state:

* loss of control of its territory, or of the monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force therein,
* erosion of legitimate authority to make collective decisions,
* an inability to provide public services, and
* an inability to interact with other states as a full member of the international community.

Often a failed nation is characterized by social, political, and/or economic failure.

Common characteristics of a failing state include a central government so weak or ineffective that it has little practical control over much of its territory; non-provision of public services; widespread corruption and criminality; refugees and involuntary movement of populations; and sharp economic decline.

@mlevi, pole if u r in a failed state. Im not. Amazing u want Kenya compared to Somalia n not the US. And if lack of coperation with the mzungu's ICC makes us a failed state, let us be! And how can this be of more weight than the ravaging famine n food/water shortage? Misleading n simplistic Crap, I cant agree with crap.
@mtu biz, thank u 4 clarifying.

1) It is only in fail states that people suspected for crime agaist its own people hold and still run the same government (suspected by who? the international community?)
2) It is only in fail states that people suspected and blacklisted for drug trafficking sits in parliament (Colombia is number 44, Mexico is number 94)

4) Fail states are among the poorest countries in the world, kenya is among the poorest countries in the world (we are the leading nation per capita in East Africa, we are about to move into the Medium human development index, GDP wise we are number 85 worldwide)
5) Fail states are among the most corrupt countries in the world, Kenya is among the most corrupt countries in the world (we are just next to Russia and are better than akina Congo (both DRC and Brazzavillie hata Angola)

MPs abused foreigners saying we are a sovereign state and all, forgetting that 6 month later we would be begging for food. Bure Kabisa,
Next year we will polish the begging bowl because floods have destroyed food. Nkest

All her East Africa Community neighbours fare better, with Burundi ranked number 17, Uganda 21, Rwanda 34, and Tanzania 65 out of 177 contestants for the disgraceful award.

I may be in a "failed" state, but this really has made my evening......

And influx of the refugees was one of the factors that made us sink this low or rise this high - whichever? These same "raters" are the ones who put pressure on michuki to open our borders to the refugees.... useless ngomongos! Granted we have our many problems that need urgent attention but, failed??? aiiish!!
