Got one of these 'erroneous MPESA transfer' texts the other day. As a student of Kiswahili, I have set the language on my MPESA account to Swa. The fella who purported to send me KES 2,730.00 obviously didn't know this so the text was in English. Comical I tell you.

@2012,check whether in your phonebook there's a contact going by the name MPESA. And you delete it. If not, confirm who the sender is.It may seem an Mpesa message but from someone's number. In addition, the Mpesa message should show you your new balance, if indeed you had received Mpesa. You can always confirm that balance (its only a bob) and see if its a hoax. Lastly, since its getting tougher knowing who a genuine is from a fake, coupled with our well natured being to always return something to someone, ignore the caller or tell him to call Mpesa 234 to get a reversal of his amount.

i confirm for free.....just buy an obscene amount of credit say,1,000,000ksh, the message comes back "filed" with the correct balance emblazoned on your screen....all for free...

Very true, or send an amount you are sure you do not have on Mpesa:

The latest is conning people out of their bonga points, I received this1!!!

*some text missing* dial *126*4*0703715227*0722# to retrieve, this eefectively transfers bonga points from your fone to that number!!!
